False alarms on APS996a

All of the sudden am getting false alarms on the system that was just installed in 99 Tahoe. For the frst four days all was well but it went off 5 times in the last couple of days. Twice was iun the middle of the night. It is always a shock detection. Last night with in 5 min of me adjusting it to the lowest sensitivity the pre-detect mode went off. This is happening at home in a rural area with no one around. There were no noises or vibrations to have caused it. I went outside and just unplugged the shock after that. Is it possible to have a bad shock sensor causing this? Any other ideas?    

yes it could be bad.......is the alarm indicating the sensor??

Where and how is the sensor mounted? I can tell you from personal experience that some sensors will false alot more do to the *echo* effect of internal panels creeking and poping do to wind shift, or temperature variations.

If the sensor is near any of the vents or ducts, this will cause alot of false alarms do to the plastics cooling and contracting, thus causing creeks and pops, which the sensor will pick up.

Wind shift is another problem, most shock / impact sensors will not be bothered by such minor annoyances. But the cheaper sensors using none piezeo discreat elements and only ferro magnet assemblies suspended by a rubber housing will cause such problems discribed above.

The sensor could still be bad, but test it and see what it may be. RFI & EMI can cause ferro magnets to do the same thing.
