I am planning on installing a remote start / alarm system in my 2002 Nissan Altima SE. I have everything figured out, except I need to find a Neutral Safety switch in my car.
I usually don't leave my car in gear, but I figured just in case I probably should wire in this safety feature.
I know once I find this wire, I can probably run it to the Hood Pin connection on the system (using a relay if needed), so I'm not worried about that....

Another option for you is to hook up your nuetral safety wire to your parking brake which will show you negative when it is on. That wire you will find near the brake lever.

the safety wire is to prevent the remote start from working. so if you leave your car out of gear and push the emergency brake with the safety wire hooked there it will not remote start

That's a pretty good idea.... I would however like to make it so it would not attempt to start if the brake is on and the car is in gear, if possible....

Get a Mannix lcd sistem from e-bay that sistem has a manual transmision safety feature that won't let you leave the car in gear, good luck

I finally found what I was looking for. Just thought I would post this for others who might find this useful....
Pin 43/44 at the ECM behind the glove box(use multimeter to find which one in your application, apparently it varies) is the neutral safety switch. It is (-) when in Neutral, and not connected when in ANY gear.
So, I installed a couple of relays, with this configuration:
30/86 - Start output from Remote Start module
85 - Connect to Neutral Safety wire (with diode)
87 - Starter wire in the Altima
I'm not 100% on if I had to, but I installed 2 of these, one for each starter wire in the Altima, so there would be 30A going to each.
Now, if I go to remote start and the car is in gear, the module thinks that it is giving 3 attempts, but the starter is never engaged. I have a 2-way system, so it eventually times out and replies to my remote that the start failed.
It took a little extra time (ok, a lot if you figure in research time), but it is worth the safety, for other people/property, and of course MY BABY.
** One last note ---- I am in no way responsible for any damage caused by following this information. I'm just sharing my success story......

There is a discussion at the DEI forums right now about neutral safety wires in standards. It was mentioned that some Nissans have them and some other cars as well. My Subaru WRX has one, and I also have the info on other Subarus.
bigwilley, do you remember the color of the wire you used?
