Hurray! I can now lock/unlock and remote start both of my Volvos with just one remote using different buttons and combinations. I started with 2 Viper 560XVs (alarm, keyless entry and remote start) installed in my V70R and 740. Kudos to my installer - he does great work!

Each car had 2 dedicated remotes. I was not content carrying two identical remotes on the key chain and guessing which car would open/close or remote start.

So, I started by programming each car with a fully functioning/fully featured remote to keep as a spare. Then I got 3 more remotes and programmed the right two buttons on each to be used on one car and left two buttons for the other vehicle!

I spent a few hours messing with the config and reading the manuals. On top of a regular lock/unlock and remote start for each car, I have a turbo timer function for the V70R car so before getting out of the car, I can activate the timer, pull out the key, shut the door and set the alarm, all while the engine runs for another 3 minutes!

The only thing I cannot figure out is how to program a silent lock/unlock. This is for when I don't want to disturn the surroundings with a regular chirp that accompanies the lock and unlock operation. This can be done with a fully functional, dedicated remote, but I think I used up all the button combinations on the dual vehicle remotes.

To make a long story short, I love my Viper alarms and remote starts. I used those for years in other cars and they never fail and they make lots of sense. This particular install makes me really happy because it is very convinient and functional

Bing0,

You are correct about the AUX button and silent lock/unlock.  Howeven, how do you program this option when programming a custom remote configuration?

How do you set it to only arm?

ikorman,

To be able to do silent arm - here's what you can do. I'm not sure how exactly your remote is marked, but I do remember it's a 4-button. I would suggest you program each one as follows.
Button 1 - Arm/Disarm/Panic for car 1.
Button 2 - Channel 2/Aux for car 1. This is normally the trunk release channel, which I'm guessing is unused because they're both wagons??
Buttons 1 and 2 together - Remote Start for car 1.
Button 3 - Arm/Disarm Panic for car 2.
Button 4 - Channel 2/Aux for car 2.
Buttons 3 and 4 - Remote Start for car 2.

Pushing Channel 2 and then pushing the arm/disarm button does the silent function.

If you want to have separate buttons for arm and disarm, you could try keeping them like they are, and programming buttons 1 and 3 together to be the aux for car 1, and buttons 2 and 4 together to be the aux for car 2; I'm not sure if that will work but you could give it a try. Good luck with everything.
