I am looking for a line of alarms & remote starters for a small installation business. Most of the big names seem to want a guarantee of a large monthly minimum, as a starting business I cannot make that kind of deal just yet. I have talked to the people at direct start and they seem small shop friendly. I am looking for any opinions as to the quality of their products. I am also open to hear of any other companies that may be small shop friendly.

I don't know about them specifically. But this is one of the local wholesellers here in AZ, link. They may not have the best products but they carry alot of video and wiring, plus home audio, electronics, and just about any thing else you can come across to sell. They have always been real easy to deal with as well.
