Subject: looking for starter wire on 00 S10

i'm attempting to install a remote starter in my '00 S10. the wiring guides I have (one from this site, one from Bulldog, the mfg) say the starter wire (in the column) is either a yellow or purple wire.
well, there is a large yellow wire, but it turns out it is just a casing for a green and white wire. there are other smaller gauge wires, but there's about four yellows, and two purples - looks to be about 18 ga. shouldn't the starter wire be a large gauge?
which one is the starter wire??
thanks.

I would suggest to use a voltmeter. That is the only way you can be sure which is the starter wire. In some cars a srter wiren is a thin wire, whereas in other cars it is a thick wire. Just use your meter

Use DEI part 555t or 555L. *1 The BCM is located to the right of the accelerator pedal below the radio. The plugs on the BCM face towards the drivers side. *2 Use tan for the drivers door located in pin B4 of the purple plug, orange for the passenger door located in pin B2 of the purple plug, must diode isolate these wires. *3 The PCM is located on the passenger fender. On the 2.2L the wire is in a black 80 pin plug pin 10, and on the 4.3L the wire is in a red 32 pin plug pin 20. *4 This wire will not test when using the headlight switch. This wire is triggered by the DRL system. To meter the wire, start the car with the parking brake set, when the brake is released this wire will go to ground. *5 Also found in the brown plug at the BCM on vehicles with a factory alarm. |

The yellow casing you speak of sounds like the airbag wire. Be careful and dont mess with that one. Im surprised it doesnt have a warning tag on it. The starter wire is typically larger guage. The diagram I see says it should be active in the start and run positions because it controls the pcm module. I am assuming the starter stops cranking because of the electronics. Otherwise being active in the run position would grind it. Thats my best guess. Maybe someone else is familiar with that. Let us know if you get it.

I've done remote starts on later model S10s and Blazers and they didn't have a large gauge yellow starter wire - it's like 14 or 16 gauge I believe. The white 2nd ignition wire is also small gauge.

it was one of the small gauge yellow wires. it's sort of grouped together with the white ignition wire. also, something to note, all the guides i've seen say the accessory wire is Orange, however, I found it to be Brown. so, thanks for your notes. d. ------------- '05 Hemi Ram

use the Brown wire, if you would like to turn the radio on durning remote starts. use the Orange wire, if you would like the heater blower motor to turn on during remote starts.

I suggest if your going to test the wire your looking for you use a digital multimeter. when you test the wire you should get 12volts on cranking the truck then when the truck turns on the voltage goes away.
