hi,

firstly id like to say how great this forum is, very helpful and excellent for 12v people like me!

Ok, my situation here is that i installed my alarm recently, and it comes with a feature that if u hold the secondary button for 2 seconds, a wire on the alarm brain will provide 1.2 seconds of ground (to open a boot) !!but since i dont have a boot, i want to make it so that this button will turn on my headunit.Ideally, i want to use a relay which will output a 12V signal to my ACC wire (to wire up the headunit)but since the option for the alarm only provides a 1.2 second burst of ground then this is not possible.Is there a switch which will turn on, on a ground signal and turn off on a ground signal??Because that is the only thing i can think of to make my idea workOr is there such a relay that wil stay on if there is a 1.2 second negative signal?Please help me..I really want to use this feature for something on my car, cant think of anything else right now except for the headunit.

what about using a latching relay once energized the 1.2 seconds should be enough to latched it on to turn on your radio. press it once it will latch(turn on) press it again it will unlatch(turn off). i think thats right anyone else can elaborate on what i said.

lol

i went to the local electronics store and asked for a latching relay, they gave me a little chip, i have no idea how to use, as it solders onto a circuit board lol.

that looks a bit too complicated..

howabout this one..

with the green wire connected to the boot release signal wire, and the constant 12v connected to the Headunits accessory,

and also what is that little light blue circuit with the block and white stripe??? =\ how are/should they be connected

That would be a diode...keeps power going on direction or inhibits a return signal

If I am not mistaken, when you use the lower diagram "momentary to constant", it would turn on your stereo but you couldn't turn it off. You would have to interupt the fused 12v+ source to turn your stereo back off. With the 4 relay setup posted by auex, you would be able to turn your stereo on and off with the remote.

ideally id like to turn the relays off once my car is on..

and.. i think having 4 relays with wires sticking out in my car isnt such a good idea..

i'll use the second one and make a switch to turn the HU off.. howabout that?
