Run low voltage through the cars chassis to shock someone who touches it?

I park out in the middle of no where everywhere I go, so I'm just not worried about the "little old lady" problem. I did however have someone come up and key my ride not long ago.

I'm installing a perimeter sensor, but would like some sort of aggressive deterrent. Not the tasar type voltage, just something annoying enough to move someone on to the next vehicle and to possible set off the alarm so I will be paged.

Thanks,
EJ

also if you send 12 volts through vehicles chassis wouldnt you then lose ground to every component/whatever is grounded to chassis...?

That's what I've been worried about....the components grounded to chassis....

And at the low voltage that I'm talking about, I'm not worried about kids (they shouldn't be touching the car anyway :D). Anyone with a pacemaker wont park where I park.

Worried about components? I would worry about the battery exploding, running 12 volts through the chassis would create a dead short. First you can't shock anyone using only +V or ground, current must complete the path from + to - for any power to flow and running through the chassis of the vehicle there is no way to isolate + from - in order to shock anyone, and even if you did then the person would have to touch both. Second 12 volts DC doesn't hurt one bit, I barely notice it unless a piece of wire breaks the skin. Third, I believe that this is infact a felony, look into it. It is called mantrap or something to that effect. Sorry, but this post is stupid. If you want to talk in a truly hypothetical situation then I can tell you many ways to set these traps but, an open forum just isn't the place because some idiot, moron, or jackass will probably try to do it and blame the forum.

I read about the most deadly car security system in the guinness book of world records. Somewhere in South Africa, somebody developed a system that shot flames up from underneath the car, like a blowtorch or something, when an intruder tried to open the door without a key. And guess what? They said its legal in South Africa! It said car theft is a major problem over there and authories approve of security systems like that. I bet it would be pretty expensive to hook up some crap like that, lol. But you know what I think would be a good idea? Maybe rig up a windshield washer squirter aimed at about the position an intruder would be standin on the side of your car, and hook it up to a bottle of pepper spray. Have a sensor on the door handle that sets it off if someone tries to open your door. They'd get blasted with pepper spray, plus your pager would go off and you'd come out to find the dirty bastard curled up on the ground rubbing his eyes!

It's actually legal to shoot someone that comes up to your car and threatens you there....

I'd actually be happy with something that would simply activate the alarm shoud metal contact the car...hopefully, I'd be w/in range of my pager, but at least the alarm would be ringing.

How about using one of those units that are in a touch-on lamp in your house?

I actually thought of that because I have one beside the lazy boy that is an add-on unit. Just not sure if I have the skillset to make it work with DC, etc.

How about the window squirter idea but with something a little safer to yourself. You wouldn't want that crap accidentilly getting into your car if you were driving. How about something more along the lines of a dye similar to what they use in bank dye packs. The would be theif would be stained for awhile at least.

In my garage,  I have this motion sensor detector.   When a movement is detected, it triggers the main unit inside my house.  A wireless system.  Range 300 ft.  The transmitter/sensor is battery powered, the receiver has 12v adapter that plugs into a wall.

So If I put the motion sensor (an infrared) inside  my car, and hang a kind of dangling (like a pendulum or neclace, etc.) object in front of it, any movement of the car will cause the sensor to be activated and the receiver (inside my apartment) triggered.

Check the 'garage door opener accessories'  in your nearest  Walmart.

Hey anyone remember Dragon Fire? White smoke would come out from under your car seat if the car alarm went off too long! What happens if smoke rolls out of your car in front of Safeway? 911? Firefighters? Broken window? Firehose? HAHAHA!

Too much thief deterrent in a car migh make the thief angry and simply break the windshields and move on to the next car.

Also, A thief may not touch a car that has a flat tire.  Because it can mean the owner is just around waiting for the two truck....    just an idea.

In 1999 I caught a bugular attempting to steal my car. He came at me with a dent puller. He took "2" 40 calibers to the chest. It was not cool. I was held for a while, but luckily there were witnesses who saw what had happened. I was sued....they lost.  I had to change my name, and move out of the state because the guys family were all gangbangers. I killed their "innocent" son. the guy had a rap sheet 2 pages long. I have no remorse for it. Another criminal off the street to me. If he had not come at me, I would have not shot him.

moral of the story, sometimes unexpected things an really change your life. If your electric contraption kills somebody, its going to be 2nd degree. Radar sensor with a lockable cover.

Yeah...I really wanted to find some way to simply activate the alarm if there was a touch to the car...not from vibration from the road, but physical touch...like the touch lamps.

That really would accomplish warding off most of the type of vandals that I'm worried about.

I worry about being placed into the same situation that you had to face...I'm very protective of "MY" property and will not let someone take it from me if I can help it. I hope never to have to make the choice that you did.

The shocking steering wheel club is called the autotaser. i have one, and i can gurantee you can not hold one, something me and and some friends pulled after a night of drinking. But like the club, a saw a bolt cutters to the steering wheel will render it useless. The autotaser is no longer made, but there are some still available. It uses 3 9-volt batteries and goes through them every 4 days. I still use mine combined with a brake lock pedal and alarm. I have a radar sensor, audio sensor, 3 shock sensors, 2 piezos, hood lock, battery backup. I use a cover with a lock, If Im at work or at the movies, etc. I might sound a little anal, but I got thousands invested into my multi-media, rims, body kit, etc. im also the guy who laughs when you get your stuff stolen because you did not take my advice ......Your first mod should be a good alarm.... Period...... Screw the headers, lowering, pipe, stereo, bodykit, wing, etc BUY THE BEST ALARM YOU CAN AFFORD!

I used to work at a shop that carried those. The manager bet a customer that he couldn't hold onto it for 30 seconds and if he could he could have it for free. What really sucks is he had to let go at 28 seconds and had an ambulance called to check him out. My manager ended up giving him the autotaser and a cheap kenwood deck for free. No lawsuit or anything. That was funny as hell to watch.
