In my failed install attempt this weekend, I discovered I'm basically trying to acheive on thing, which is get the doors to lock and unlock remotely. The Hornet is a little too complex as just a remote door lock device, but hey.. My question is this: Are the door lock/unlock leads going to reqire a high current or should the pulsed unlock lead and a lock lead from the Hornet have enough power, or should I relay a 12V source or ground source?? I have the correct unlock and lock factory leads going into the factory drive block box.. I'm just not getting the Hornet and the unlock and lock leads to communicate.. the Hornet alarm has an unlock lead and a lock lead, which are labeled {green   (-) lock , (+) unlock output} and [blue (-) unlock (+) lock output] I'm even a bit confused on these, does one lead supply both neg and pos. depending on the lock or unlock?

Thanks in advance!

Coleman.

-the doorlock on the hornet is not high current, it should have enuff current to drive the relay of doorlocks.
-if your vehicle have neg doorlock pulse, then just follow the the negative and block out the positive.

yes, they toggle between + & - , so if you need a negative trigger for your DRL system using the appropriate wire to get a negative pulse, if you require a positive, the the opposite, etc.

they are a low current output designed to trip a relayed circuit... in many cases they will directly tap in... if however, you are unsure about the current requirements of your vehicle i would recommend that you use a 451M DRL module...they are cheap and remove all doubt....

Thanks for the tip.. I have ordered a DEI 451M unit.. Do you have the Document #1041 for DEI install lock wiring guide? I tried to get it from tech support, and they snuffed me... (bastards!!) I will try the module and see if that solves any issues in this.. I know it cant be that tough.. I think I should go back with my Multimeter and watch all aspects of the lock/unlock actions and make notes... any tips??

Directfax. It goes into heavy detail on locking systems.

Spread info. this list Rules!! I got what I needed from you, not even the manufacturer.. odd the way things work...

Thanks.

im all for helping people but...

DEI gives access to directfax, directechs, techsoft, directwire ect to its dealers on a privileged basis.  they are not supposed to share it without giving up the right to use it.  i have access to anything DEI related, but i dont share it.  i will still help people but i will not link right to a fax document or post an entire vehicles wiring diagram.  i didnt always have access and i had to test things for my self.  the 451m is basically two relays.  if someone working in the feild cannot understand it, or at least play with it and get it to work, shouldnt be doing the install.  having the install guide for the 451m helps know what the terminals are, but it can still be hard to read from there.  i dont know what you paid for it ($25?) but its not worth it.  use the lock/unlock output to trigger a relay and drive a + or - signal and you are done.

-am sorry to say but it sounds like jealousy.
-if youre a good installer and make a lot money, you shouldnt let these things bother ya.

www.7thgencivic.com has Techsoft diagram for free, need to register for SN.

Hmm this sounds similar- so basically you're saying that it was okay for you to experiment, ask for help, fail, explore but me; I should consult a certified installer- yeah.... .. I'm deep into wiring on a saturday, I've got my multimeter, I'm doing my best.. Look, If I can buy a porsche with cash, i'm sure I can afford to take it to a place and have an alarm installed. It's that I, just like you, enjoy working on electronic projects-.. It's really a form of therapy for me.. I have to work at a computer all day and I need to work with my hands on my downtime.. I'm sure you understand-..

A few other things..

-The manual is really poor.. for the unlock and lock leads it basically says, "these colored leads are for the doors, hook them up" I need a bit more info -hence the list.

-Not to belittle your certification; but the last time I had a Clifford installed in my previous Carrera 4 by a certified installer at Tweeter Etc. in boston, it didn't work out too well for me.. I would turn on my right turn indicator and the horn would sound.. From that point on I figured I had enough aptitude to hook the horn lead to the the turn stalk and decided that the next alarm, I'd install.

-The 451M was $9 on ebay.. and from what I understand, the instructions with the unit are detailed in the different locking systems on various cars.. so, 9 bones to get the diagram and a working alarm is still worth it..

true enuff... the instructions that come with the 451M are comprehensive ... all you need to know is the location and polarity of the L/U wirees in the car... Is the 993 grey market?  I tried to look this info up for you and couldnt find it listed.....

Also, i can relate to the problems you had with your carrera... after a couple scr*w ups at the local MB dealership, i ended up doing most of the work on my E55 myself, even tho the car was still under warranty..... i took far more care taking things apart and putting them back together than the mechanic working on 10 like vehicles a day did..... i actually talked to him one time expecting him to be a car buff and appreciate the high end vehciles he was working on, only to have him tell me... " it's all just metal "     he couldnt care less whether it was a $100,000 E55 or a Pinto.... he just worked on whatever they stuck in front of him... that was the day i began doing things myself.... unfortunately there are a lot of car audio/security installers out there with the same attitude.... " it's all just metal"
