Subject: Adding horn honk to keyless entry.

I just installed a Crimestopper CoolStart RS-700 Series II (remote start with keyless entry) on my girlfriend's 89 Pontiac Sunbird. I added aftermarket door actuaters in the 2 doors. I added my own relays for a reverse polarity system, so that I could trigger them with the negative keyless outputs. The unit installed smoothly and works great. However, my girlfriend wants it to honk when she locks and unlocks the car. The unit isn't setup with an output for that. I decided to use a relay and 2 diodes and hooked up the horn to the negative outputs for lock and unlock from the unit. I set the unlock to double pulse so I would get 2 honks when unlocking and 1 when locking. This works BUT the lock output makes the horn blow for about 1 second and the unlock for about 1.5 seconds. It doesn't seem like a long time but it's a little too long for me and a bit obtrusive.

I was hoping someone might have some experience with caps and resistors and could help me shorten my horn honk a bit. Maybe down to .25 or .50 seconds so it sounds a little more normal. The locks also lock after a successful remote start which will sound the horn also but that is fine.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer, Steve

Yes it has a parking light output which is hooked up. When the vehicle is remote started the lights come on and stay on for the duration of the cycle.

Does anyone know how to make a short pulsed horn honk output for my application using a relay, capacitor and resistor? Or any other suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
