Hello all, I'm new to the forum here but I've been reading feverishly for the last couple of days trying to find a solution to my problem. I have a Bulldog Remote start that my wife bought me a couple years back. When I installed it I had 0 knowledge of alarms or starters. The unit works perfectly except that the AC does not come on. The fans blow, but they don't blow cool air. I have lived with the problem, but I'd like to fix it. I've read the wiring diagram in the database and it states that there are 3 ignition wires and 1 accessory wire. Unfortunately, my bulldog starter (1200E I believe) only has 2 ignition wire outputs and 1 accessory wire output. Am I correct in assuming that all 3 ignition wires and 1 accessory wire has to be given power? If so, how do I go about wiring it up properly so that none of the factory wires are directly connected (assuming this would be a problem). Thanks in advance for your help. Here is a link to the database wiring diagram for easy reference: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1997&make=Ford&model=Expedition&ID=17790&type=Alarm

What you need to do is wire in a relay like this: Second Ignition relay and have pin 30 go to the 3rd IGN wire instead of the 2nd one. ------------- Jeff

Thanks for the quick reply! Quick clarification though. Which of the wires from the Bulldog system do I hook up to the relay,? Do I split one of the existing IGN wires from the bulldog and attach it to both 87 and 86 and then permanently ground 85? That seems like it would do the trick. Russell

All you need to do is take the ground out when running wire from the Bulldog system and attach it to pin 85. DO NOT attach it to ground otherwise the ign wire wire always have power going to it and drain your battery.

Thank Jeff. I didn't get a chance to get to it last night, but hopefully things will slow down this weekend and I'll get it installed. Thinking back about the original install, I only remember hooking up 1 IGN and 1ACC wire :) We'll see how bad I botched it when I get back under there. Russell

Jeff, I ended up installing the relay as follows: Pin 86 tied to 87 and 87 to +12v ACC from bulldog remote start Pin 30 to ACC2 in steering column Pin 85 to ground (constant) This way, when the remote start is turned on, pins 86&87 get 12V from the bulldog unit. Pin 30 is grounded permanantly, so the coil is then energized and pin 30 gives 12V to the ACC2 wire. When the remote start is disabled, pins 86&87 do not get signal, so no power is supplied anywhere. It works great! Now if only my DEI VATS bypass module worked as well. Thanks, Russell

What's it doing?

It only works intermitently. Sometimes the anti-theft light turns off, other times it doesn't. Quite a pain in the ass actually. It's the DEI 555F. Russell

The 555F can be a pain to get positioned correctly. I would play with it until you find a good position then use zip ties and strip caulk to really hold it in place. Another approach would be to use DEI's 555U, but with this unit you would need to have a key that will stay in the car.

I played with it for about 3 hours trying different positions. It works fine when the outer steering column shroud is not in place. As soon as I put the steering column shroud back on, it only works intermittently. I have come to live with it, but it's just a PITA. Even my stock key sometimes doesn't work. Occassionally I have to push as hard as I can on the oustide of the key cylinder to try to "adjust" the stock sensor ring in the steering column. I think it's just bad engineering on Ford's part.
