Does anyone know how to disable the factory alarm on a 97 Eclipse?
Thanks
Brian

I should add that the alarm is on my daughters car and has never worked. Now it comes on as soon as you open the door and won't shut off. No button on the key fob will silence it and after it shuts itself off, the car won't start.
Thanks again,
Brian

No, she bought it used from the Mitsubishi dealer. We didn't know it had an alarm other than the panic button.
I'm really ignorant about new electrical systems, so I don't know what or where about the ECU and the PKP.
Thanks,
Brian

Do you disable the panic alarm the same way you would the car alarm? The key fob has a panic button on it, and I think this is actually the problem. Somehow, it's malfunctioning.

ECU and the PKP is the computer that is behind the passenger kick panel

hey try pulling out the fuse for the security...if that doesn't work...there is a kick panel on the driver side...you should find a GREEN / WHITE wire...ground it...to shut the alarm up...try putting the key in the driver's side door and turn it to the right...your key fob might not be programmed right...let me know if you want directions on how to do that...i have a 95 eclipse

First off, do you know if it's a OEM security or a aftermarket security ? Are you sure that the system was an OEM one ? With my experience with used car salesman, they don't know much about the accessories when it comes to vehicles, they only know how to sell a vehicle. Does the OEM remote FOB have a Mitsubishi insignia on it ?

its the oem security if the horn goes off and not a siren. also if you open your door and lock it, there will be a green security button that lights up when you lock the doors. i'm pretty sure the remote fob does NOT have mitsubishi on it. the keyless entry for the 2nd gen eclipses were actually made by chrysler.

Not necessarily true to that point from anumeric. I have worked on systems that did not have a siren, but instead of the siren you had the OEM horn.
