Subject: Got a problem? SRS light
Date Posted: June 07, 2004 at 9:44 PM

I removed the front drivers seat out of my 02 civic and noticed that when I had to move the car(had to let wife out of driveway) without the seat that the SRS light did not go out when car was started,, this is before any wiring was started for the alarm/RS so I just figured that when the seat was reinstalled the light would go back to normal operation.. Well guess what the light will not go off after car is started,,, So I think I set off the SRS to have the light on till the code is erased.. Have any of you installers had problems like this?  Is there a way to erase the code to reset the light to normal operation without taking the car to the dealer?  I know it is not in my wiring or any problems with the SRS circuit,, I just tripped the code light by running the car without the seat in it..

I have already tried unhooking the battery(however the SRS(airbag control) has a backup battery so that did not work... Also went to autoparts store and their code reader does not have the capability to access the SRS or erase codes in that part of the system.. Please help me out guys... 10yrs ago when I did alarms/RS on a regular basis it was so much easier and the cars were much less complicated..           If you could help me out, any problems with your Home airconditioning or heating let me know and I can surely help you save some money as I have been doing hvac for the last 10yrs..

PLEASE Help  J

This may or may not work on the 02 but ,
"1. turn ignition switch off, remove ECU service connector
2. connect (jump) the MES connector (this is 2 pin yellow connector wrapped in yellow plugged in the front of the underdash fuse box)
3. turn ignition switch on
4. SRS light will come on for 6 secs then go out, remove the jumper within 4 secs after the light goes out.
5. the SRS light will come on again, reconnect the jumper within 4 secs after the light has come on.
6. the SRS light will go off, remove the jumper with in 4 secs after the light has gone off.
7. the SRS light will blink to times indicating the memory is reset."

damn that is a gutsy move, i figure you would not have said it if it hadnt worked, but i always stay away from the wires wraped in yellow, the first thing i would try is to disco the battery and wait 5 minuets and then touch the to cables together and then reconnect them to the battery

That is the way to reset the srs light for honda, but I don't know about his generation. You could always find and download a helms (factory service manual) for your car.
