I finally got the alarm into a 65 mustang, everything works fine except for the light flash. Only the rear lights flash. My guess is that I may have to diode isoltae each individual front signal using the turn signal wires, then connect it to the parking light flash from the alarm? The front parking lights also double as the turn signals, and I think that is what is causing the problem. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Chris

you might have 2 seperate wires coming off your switch one for the front and one for the rear.......but I don't think that's what you have since your car is older........if you didn't go to the switch for your wire then try going to the switch.......you might have just grabbed your tail light wire coming from the fuse box.

The wire I used had 12volts when the parking/headlight switch was pulled, and was located coming off the fusebox. So I connected the white wire off the alarm there.

Well I pulled the switch assembly out, and tested every single wire, and it turns out that the front two parking/turn signals are independent of the rear lighting. So I take it the best method is to diode isolate the two wires? The only thing I'm not sure is what kind of diode to use. I've never bought them before, and at a radioshack, the only one I found that was 12volt was rated at 21 milliamps. What kind of diodes will I need for this application?

i amp diodes will do....i think its like a 1n4001 or something like that....Radio Shack should have them.....

Does the voltage it's rated at matter? because there's like 50v, 200v, and 400v ratings.

1 ampere (1N4001/L)

the car is only 12v, so as close as possible will do

If it's not one thing it's another. Although the alarm and all the functions related to it work fine, the turn signals are acting a bit strange. I disconnected the alarm and all the wiring related to the parking/turn signal circuit, and it still acted up. The deal is that when only the parking lights are on, the front right turn signal doesn't flash. The left one does, as do both rears, but not the front right. When the headlights are on, the front right flashes very dimly, but when the lights are off completely, it flashes brightly. posted_image I checked the bulbs, flasher unit, and rechecked all of my wiring, so I think the problem was present before I started the install, I just didn't notice it. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

If I might suggest using a higher amperage diode as the current draw of the parking lights will be higher than the 1 amp that the IN4001's are rated at. Try to find at least 10 amp diodes and if you have no luck you can isolate the two systems using relays....good luck
