Subject: cant get 550esp to remote start

Need a little help if anyone has any advice that I may try. I have a Viper 550 esp that I am installing in my 1999 Cavalier, and I can't get it to remote start. Everything else seems to work fine.

I have :

a.)Checked all the main wires to make sure that they where correct - (acc ign's, etc.) I found that the WireMagic chart I had actually had the ign and the acc wire backwards. Switched that the way it is supposed to be, and still does not work.

b.)put in a 555L to bypass the PassLock I system. I started the car for 5 seconds like DEI says to do to get the R code. Still does not work. (Black wire from 555L to black going to key cylinder, - cut yellow wire going to key cylinder, yellow from 555L to key side, BLACK / YELLOW from 555L to the other side of the yellow wire going to key cylinder.)

c.)I did program the tach on the alarm, (start car, hold the valet switch for 5 seconds) -although the notes on my chart say to program the alarm so that it is for 2 cylinders. I don't recall having to do this on this particular alarm, and don't know how to. The install instructions don't make a reference to it anyways. Maybee I need to?

d.)checked all the fuses

resistor on the 555L maybe? and if so how do I check for the correct one? does it matter what side the starter wire (from alarm, not starter interupt relay) goes to? I cut the starter wire (one in car), wired the black wire from the starter interupt relay to the motor side of the wire (Like DEI says to do), and the green wire from the starter interupt relay to the key side of the wire(again like DEI says to do). I then connected the starter wire from the alarm on the key side of the cut (car) starter wire. Does it matter if it is key side or motor side of that?

Like I said, everything else seems to work fine, (shock sensor, glass break, door locks, trunk pop) but it just wont remote start. I can attempt to try to remote start it and it sounds like it wants to, I hear relays (2 I think) click and it goes through the motion, but the starter will not turn.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thx..

well, crap.. lol - it just isn't my day. Let met just retype this instead of copying it..

I am having problems with my 550esp and my 99 cavalier. It wont remote start although everything else works fine.

I have :

a.)checked all the main wires to make sure that they where correct (acc, ign's, etc.) I am using a Wiremagice chart, and it had the acc and ign wire backwards, fixed that and still does not work.

b.)put in a 555L to bypass the Passlock I system. I started the car for 5 seconds for the unit to get the R code, just like DEI says to do. This was hooked up according to DEI's chart, and am fairly certain that it is not the way that I hooked this up.

c.)I did program the tach on the alarm according to DEI's instructions. The notes on the Wiremagic chart said that I may need to program the alarm so that it is for 2 cylinders. I don't recall having to do this on a Viper 550, and the installation manual makes no refrence to it.

d.)checked all the fuses

I cut the (cars) starter wire and wired the two appropriate wires from the starter interupt relay to the two sides. I then wired the starter wire from the alarm onto the key side of the cut starter wire. Does it matter if the alarms (again not the starter interupt relay) starter wire goes on the key side or the motor side of the (cars) starter wire that I cut?

Everything else seems to work fine, but it wont remote start. I can attempt to try to remote start it, and it goes through the motions (I can hear relays click) but the starter will not turn..

Thanks for any suggestions

the start wire should be on the motor side of the relay and not the key side.

Thanks 97gss, I switched that over and now it cranks, but it won't start.

The voltage on a tach wire should be between 1 -6 volts right? I am only getting .26 volts on my tach wire. Does the 550 have a problem picking up this small amount of voltage? Is this why my remote start won't start, because the tach is not programed? Or possibly something else?

Any suggestions would be appreciated..

passlock needs to be bypassed during remote start, 555l from dei will do the trick

sounds like a tach problem to me...go to an injector wire (uncommon color wire).
