I have a 95 ranger that had a keypad starter kill switch when i bought it. It has been acting up lately, I have to enter the code 7-8 times before it turns off. I thought maybe the ground was bad so I unhooked the battery, cleaned the ground and hooked the battery back up. I can enter my code and the keypad turns off, but now the truck won't start. The keypad has a red wire, black wire, green wire, and white wire. The white is hooked up to a my white illumination wire. The green is is hooked up to one side of an orange wire comes from a wiring harness, the red wire is hooked up to the other side of the orange wire that goes to my ignition switch. Black is ground to the chassis. How can I get this to fixed so my truck will start. Thanks for any help!

ok you said that the green is hooked up to a wiring harness:

"The green is is hooked up to one side of an orange wire comes from a wiring harness."

trace the above wire. i think you will find that it goes to a RED / LIGHT BLUE (IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS) under the dash. the above wire will be cut in two. reconnect the above wire to itself and try the key.

i would D/C the keypad system if it's not working right....

I traced the the orange wire connected to the green wire of the kill switch to a wiring harness with 2 black wires, one yellow wire, and the white illumination wire. No other wires were connected or cut. What do I do to get the kill switch off and my truck started again. Do i just connect the two ends of the orange wire connected to the green and red wire of the kill switch?

your starter wire has to be cut somewhere...take a meter and check each wire....

you should find one that will show 12v when you turn the key to the crank position. that will be the key side of the cut starter wire. the other side is most likely to be the same gauge and color. you can then cut the rest and cap off the ends so that they dont short anything out....if need be post some pics or e-mail the pics to me...

thanks draasch, i finally found the RED / lt blue ignition wire. whoever installed it had it wrapped in a whole bunch of electrical tape. i was able to reconnect the wires and start the truck. i also trashed the keypad kill switch, thanks again for your help.
