Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone can give me some ideas on how to fix some problems I am having with my new DEI/Hornet 700T alarm in my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.  The DEI/ Hornet 700T is an add-on system.  It works with the factory keyless remote.

I am taking it back to the place that installed it tomorrow but I don't have very much confidence in them.  I think it should have been done right the first time.

Here are my problems.

First, the alarm can be turned on and off from just pushing the interior lock/unlock button.  So, a thief could smash my window and reach in and hit the unlock button and turn off the alarm.  The alarm would of course sound for a second or two but not enough to really get a lot of  attention.  They would probably just think it was a false alarm.  I need to prevent that from happening.

Right now the outside pushbutton entry pad will arm the system when I use it to lock the vehicle and disarm it when I use it to unlock the vehicle.  Will fixing the interior unlock/lock button problem affect the exterior pad function?  If so, how can I stop the interior unlock/lock button from arming/disarming the system but keep the exterior pushbutton pad working?

The second problem is that when the Passive alarm mode is on and it arms the system 30 seconds after the last door is closed, it isn't not locking the doors.  The 700T manual shows a wire that is supposed to be connected to do this.  I think the guy installing the alarm left the wire unconnected or connected it wrong.  Anyone know which wire of the vehicle that controls the locking of ALL doors this wire sould be connected to?

I have a third problem but I think I just read about cure for it.

My alarm sounds every 30 minutes for seemingly no reason.  The LED says that it is a door trigger.  I've read two things about this.  One is that there is a module in the vehicle that sends a pulse to the doors every 30 minutes.  I also read there is a module that powers down after 30 minutes and when it does it sends a pulse to the door trigger.  Either way, I guess I should have the installer put a diode in the door trigger line?  How should it face..Cathode away from the alarm module?  What diode should it be?  Shouldn't he have known this if he he is any good?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

thats why i dont use that type of unit....you may want to think about just using a stand alone unit........if your factory system acts up, then the alarm will not work right. also with the stand alone unit, you will have better range on the transmitter. the one you have are really easy to defeat as you already know.....

Update:

I took it back and the guy installer said his apprentice did some of the connections when he got called away for phone calls and such.   He said the kid hooked a few diodes facing the incorrect way.   Hmmmm

Now, two of the three problems are fixed but the alarm still sounds every 30 minutes.  This has to be a common problem with Fords.  How do I prevent the module in the vehicle, that is giving off the pulse every 30 minutes that triggers the alarm, from effecting the alarm?

tell your dealer to search the Directechs wiring database for the fix for this problem. This info is available to all authorized DEI dealers.
