I'm installing an alarm system in my 95 Ford Explorer and am wondering if it's neccesary or desirable to disable the factory alarm? If so what are some of the ways this might be gone about? I believe there is a wire I can tap into that will disable it but I'm not sure if it should have a pulsed type input or just be permanently grounded, depending on the polarity. I'm also wondering if the factory unit can be programmaticly disabled?

Any ideas or help is appreciated!

no programicaly dis but there will be several green\purple wires in your drivers door sill harness one of them will test ground when you unlock the drivers door with the key just hook your alarms disarm wire to this wire and it will disarm the alarm whenever unlocking or remote starting

if its an alarm only just use 2 diodes on the unlock wire (stripe facing your new alarm )and hook 1 to unlock in car and 1 to green\purple

You usually don't have to disarm factory alarms to add a new one.

if you lock the door with the door open and use the door lock switch it will arm the factory alarm on those explorers and you will look like a fool until you stick the key in one of the doors or trunk

Thanks TJ. That's what I was thinking to. I found the wire that supposedly disables the alarm. My alarm doesn't have a disable wire but it has three Aux outputs and a couple of others. Think I'll set it to disarm whenever I open or close the car. A lot of those wires have almost the same color scheme. Going to have to test them.
