Does any one know the procedure to get in to the alarm configuration. I want to change some of the default settings for the alarm and I cannot find the instructions anywhere. Thanks, Bill

its the menu settings, its a PITA kinda without a bitwritter. you have to like open the driver door, turn the ignition on then off then press the valet button as many times as the menu you want to go to like press it once then press again and hold for menu 2 then it will chirp then you need to select the option that you want under that menu like sub command 8 so you would press the valet switch 7 times and hold it the 8th and then press lock/unlock or what ever to whatever you want the setting to change to. its in the manual though.

press the valet button the number of times you want, then hold it. press ch2. on the remote to move the setting to the right hand side of the chart. thats what it says in the book.... so how is it "but it does not have any inforamtion about changing the settings"?

The alarm was installed at a shop and they only gave me the user manual. The user manual only tells you how to operate the alarm and what the functions are not how to change any of the default settings. When I asked the installer for the instructions to change some of the default settings they said they do not give that information to the customer and I would have to come back to them if I needed any settings changed. Is that normal practice? Again I want to thank everybody for the information you have given me. Bill

BTW... if the installer programmed it with a bitwriter he/she may have locked programming, in this case you will be unable to change anything without using another bitwriter to unlock programming..... it's a feature DEI came up with to prevent customers from p***ing around with things AFTER the install..... ------------- Kevin Gerry

If there are multiple settings for a feature, say the remote start is set to 12 minutes by default and the other 2 options are 24 min and 60 min would you press the unlock button 2 times to set it to 60min?

you need the installation guide, not the users guide. thats why you cant find any info.

The installer did not give me the installer guide and when I asked for it they said they do not give those to the customers. I have no idea why.

well from one point of view it makes perfect sense....it eliminates the customer changing a bunch of features or locking out the transmitter and then wanting the dealer to troubleshoot things for free or having to replace the remote etc. also Bill with the program switch you can only select a run time of 12, 24 or 60 minutes... with a bitwriter this is selectable by the minute from 1-60 ... i programmed mine to 16 minutes they should have gone through what features etc you wanted BEFORE the install...if they didnt i'd take it back...if they did and you have simply changed your mind then........... ------------- Kevin Gerry

Yes they should have went through the settings with me but they didn't. I really didn't think about because in the past I have always had the ability to change the settings to what I wanted. The last 2 alrms I had were Viper alarms and I received the installer guide with the alarm so I had the ability to change my settings. Unfortunatey this time the installer left all of the default settings. I went back to have them change the parking light setting for the remote start feature but I didn't think about the run time for remote start. Thanks for all of the input guys. Bill

thats simply a miscommunication ... i ALWAYS run thru the programming guide with customers and make sure i know in advance what features they want on or off.... i can certainly see how going back more than once will be a hassle for you, but from their point of view i can see it too.... tell you what i'd do... go back and ask to LOOK AT the guide to see what options are available...select everything you would like changed... and then have them run thru it quickly with a bitwriter...it'll only take 3 minutes if that to reprogram the system that way.....

This MAY help. It's the link to the installer’s manual for the Viper 791xv. I'm told it is the same as the Clifford 3.5. It has the information you are looking for but as stated above the Clifford may be locked by the dealers Bit writer and only able to be unlocked with a Bit writer. Try this. Print it out in case Viper moves it beyond the reach of non-dealers. It was working as of 6-25-04. https://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/viper/N564V_6-03.pdf It takes some time to load on my broadband connection so be patient, it will load. Six
