im working on an 85 corolla hatchback stickshift, putting in a remote start.

The remote starter keeps cranking past the time the engine is started as if I dont have the correct tach wire connected.

I have tried the negative side of the coil as well as the black wire at the igniter (like the wiring info here would suggest).

Can anyone tell me what the corect tach wire would look like on a meter and how to test that?

I suppose I could have a faulty unit, but i have never had trouble with this brand. I will swap in another unit just to be sure but until then any ideas????

Thanks for keeping this site free and very helpful!!!!

Is your alarm set for tach mode, and did the alarm "learn" the tach? What kind of alarm do you have?

is your car carburated? if it's not, check in you ignition harness there are 2 black yellow wires one is thinner than the other, which is your tach reference wire(thin wire) Hope this helps.

I really don't think an 85 Corolla is fuel injected...you sure?
