1996 Chrysler LHS

The manual says to set the digital multimeter to AC Voltage ant I should get a 1v to 6v reading.

The multimeter has a 750 & a 200 setting in the AC range.
It seems to read DOUBLE the voltage for any AC source in the 200 setting.
The 750 setting just eliminates the decimal.
The car battery reads 28.5 with the car running. A 9v battery reads 18v ECT.

I have 4 wiring guides for this car for RS / alarm & keyless installs.
2 of them say to pick up the RED tach wire at the coil pack. The other 2 say it will be WHITE, Black or RED and the coil pack or pass kick. Again it should read 1v to 6v.

I probed all 3 wires at the coil pack and they read 27.5v.

Where do I need to pick this wire up at in this car?

this is for the 99-00.. not sure if its the same for your car......use a meter and double check....

The important part about a tach wire is that whatever it reads, it will increase with the RPM's and decrease as they fall back down. Set your meter to AC volts, black lead to ground, red lead to the wire. With the engine running check the voltage. As mentioned somewhere between 1 - 6v AC reading is normal, but from the way your meter is acting I would focus more on how the wire reacts. Now give it a little gas and watch the number should rise and fall along with the rpm's.
