Is the install manual (specifically programming features section) the same between clifford matrix 3.5 and viper 791xv?

Yes...because they are the same alarm. All the typos are probably even the same in both.

Cool because my bro had his installed and they didn't give him the install manual. I did my own and have mine so I will turn off his nuissance prevention circuit and change his engine cranking time for him. Thanks ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

MBZ oe, this may be a dump question....but does the Viper 791XV have keyless entry? Also, how thick is the remote? Because I'm planning on getting it but I heard that it's kind of thick!?! Thanks.

the 791xv is thinner than the 790. I think thats what you heard about. I really like the clifford rs 3.5 version because it has the carbon fiber remote with a cel phone -like detatchable belt clip. I was also told by my friend who sells both that the viper remotes have been coming back with problems.

Just the remote or the whole alarm system as a whole? Hmm....I wonder if I should go with a different system then? MBZ oe, did you install your alarm system yourself or did a shop do it? If you did it yourself, how hard was it? Thanks.

I have the Viper 791XV and it works perfect, and has for 7 months. I just took it out of my Jetta and put it into my Bimmer, and its working great, minus remote start. I have to wire the remote start sensors (Tach..) before I can set it up, so the harness for it is sitting in my trunk.
One question for pro's: What causes the doors to auto-lock when the ignition is turned? It did it in the Jetta, but doesn't in the Bimmer.. I have most the wires the same, just not the remote start module wired up..

Okay, cool SiGmA_X. How thick is the remote? Also, I'm planning to use the alarm feature and the keyless entry feature but not the remote start one. Will everything still be "okay?"

Beats me how thick or thin the remote is.. I can't judge size for sh*t.. Lets put it this way, its about as tall as maybe 1.5 CD cases? Its not that big.. But its what I use as my keyring cuz I don't like extra crap on it..
Right now my car doesn't have the remote start wired in (We couldn't find tach wire, so we didn't hook the harness up to the Brain) and it works perfect.. You could get a lesser alarm tho, with out remote start, couldn't you?

The remote is a half inch thick, 2" tall and1 inch wide. Have you seen the movie Zoolander by Ben Stiller? It's kinda like that tiny cel phone he had. I was messing with a couple people by acting like I was talking on it, and it was pretty funny. I heard one say "look how tiny his phone is". Regarding the remote start feature: I too was planning on not hooking up my remote start but wanted the extra outputs to control things and the 2 way features of the 791xv or RS 3.5 cliff. But when I was installing, I figured why not hook it up. Now I feel like Michael Knight from Knight Ryder when I remote start it. Now I just have to get my car to talk ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

Is the 791 just a typical alarm system or are there like a whole bunch of other features to it. Because I thought it was just an alarm system and you could add features to it but you would have to buy them seperately but when I took it to a shop today because I've been having problems with the installation, the guy wanted $485 for the installation due to the "additional features" that he would have to do. So yeah, I'm just confused now....anyone know the answers to it please let me know. Thanks folks.

pffft.... hey, whoever can't find your tach... just change it to voltage sensing and you won't need a tach wire. 791 has keyless... you can have problems with buying an alarm that is meant to be set up with remote start and not hooking up the remote start, depending on where the brain is getting it's ignition and what not... if you just want the remote... you could get a lesser alarm and program that remote in... you could even do the 690 and still have the two way feature, but no remote start... some things to think about.... also... there's nothing extra with the 791... so whoever said that is bullsh*tin you... you have to buy that sh*t... it's just a normal alarm install... thats outragous... i just got through putting one of those in for a dinner in exchange

Drey - Do you know much about the 791xv? I am having an issue with mine, that I never have had before. When I had the alarm in the Jetta, and turned the ignition on, the doors locked. Now, they don't lock, nor unlock with ign off. Any idea why?

Sigma. Do you have your install manual? You have to chang it in your programming menu. If you don't, here is the link to your manual. https://www.directechs.com/guides/manuals/ig/viper/N564V_6-03.pdf ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

Do you have your remote start harness connected? It needs to be to use that feature.

Ah okay that explains it ;) My remote start harness is sitting in the trunk, we didn't finish the install, of remote start, so we didn't hook up the half-done harness. I'll plug it in and see if it works.
And according to the manual, the defaul is for auto lock/unlock. Check page 44.

Yes, it is by default. I don't use that feature because I don't want to wear out my locking mechanisms twice as fast. You may also want to disable the Nuissance Prevention Circuit because someone can set off your sensors 3 times and then have an hour to carefully get in your window and do whatever they please. ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

I'll do that. My shock-sensor doesn't respond to ANYTHING when we rock the car ... Any suggustions on making it respond? :)

It won't do anything if you rock the car. You would need the tilt and motion sensor for that. First off, the sensor should be mounted to something solid that will transmit impact force. Second, you set it so when you hit the car with an open hand, it sends warn chirps. Then hit the window with a sideways fist, fairly hard, and this should send full trigger alarm. ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

Which way should I turn the "dial" on it? And, it won't respond to rocking the car at all?

Clockwise is more sensitive. It won't do anything if you rock the car. It is a dual stage impact sensor, not a tilt and motion sensor. Where did you mount it?

Mounted it in some tray behind the glove box. Its decentlly secured, shouldn't go anywhere, and the tray is mounted to the firewall. Where's the best location for the sensor (for best sensory)

Usually the steering column or any other solid metal part you can get to. It needs to transfer the impact vibration to the sensor. I once tried to mount one with double sided tape which gave it "suspension" so it did not work at all. Securely mount it to something solid. I had to experiment with locations because my car is dynamat x-tremed from front to back so the body is very "dead" vibration-wise. My best location was tie wrapped to my shifter housing inside of my centert console. Most people mount them to the metal part of steering column. ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

Alright, I'll use the firewall itself. That should give perfect viberations. That, or the sidewall of the car.

I didn't know the automatic lockings would ruin the lock mechanisms. How do you shut it off?

It won't ruin them. But it will use them twice as much, which means they have half the life expectancy. You have to change the settings in menu 1

aww man... i was reading through this post again and finding stuff and going *Aha!* but MBZ oe is taking all my answers! poo head. i told you! if you didn't hook up that remote start harness there would be some sillyness. get that in there. as for shock sensors... i'm going to put 4 in my truck... i'm about to be in a similar perdicament as far as the dynamat. i have 5 bulk packs on thier way.... so i'm going to be mounding them to the body of my car in the respectable 4 corners(ish).... do take off that noise circuitry blah blah.... that just creates a wide open area for criminals!! .... what else.... TAKE YOUR FACE PLATE OFF!

I really don't know anything about the 791... I read the manual and still get confused....how the heck to you get to menu 1 settings? Also, what are those senor 1 and sensor 2 stuff (I believe that's what they're called)?
