Why do people hide their valet switches? You need the key to do anything with it anyways. If they have your key then you are already screwed. Right!?

I understand that for many cars but my 87 300E has a case hardened steel ignition lock. It took my locksmith buddy about 4 hours to drill it out when it went bad, so I'm not worried about that. I will probably do the ghost switch option when I figure out exactly how to. ------------- BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM....

if you have newer cars thats have somekind of anti-theft (i.e. immobilizer, pats), then you not need to worry about hiding it casue they cant start w/o a key anyways.
but if you have the cars that dont have anti-theft, then youll need to hide them.

if they have your key you're only screwed if some idiot mounted the valet switch right on the dash for everyone to see..... right?? most professional installers hide this switch simply as habit..... ------------- Kevin Gerry

Unless you have a plain view valet switch alarm (ones with some sort of code that is needed) or the ghost switch part hook up. you should hide your valet switch/button. It also depends on what car you have, like my very first car
 was the biggest pile of crap, but i wanted keyless entry part, but i put an alarm in. so i did not hide the valet switch.

I hid mine, but I plan on hooking the wires up to a ghost switch when I figure out how to.

A ghost switch is a switch already in the car (headlight, high beam, turn signal) that is used (momentary) to act as a valet switch. Since its part of the car, a theif won't know how to disable the alarm (hopefully). There may be other switches in the car that are used as a "ghost switch" but I normally use the valet switch supplied with the alarm. I do hide the switch, but only for visual reasons. ------------- itmdtr
