Subject: Older DEI Python remote start alarm

I have a DEI Python remote start alarm that's about 4 years old (not sure of the model #) and i'm having trouble altering the alarm settings.  What i'm trying to do is set it up so that when i activate the remote start that the parking lights stay constant and don't flash.  Here's the steps that I've tried and maybe someone can tell me what i'm doing wrong, or not doing at all.

First I turn the ignition on, then off.  I know that the parking lights feature is in menu 3, option 4.  So i push and hold the valet switch until i'm in the third menu.  I hit the valet switch 4 times, then a fifth and hold it to gain access to the 4th feature of that menu.  Then I press the unlock button (button 2 right?) on my remote to set the parking lights to stay constant when in remote start mode but nothing happens.  No confirmation chirps from the alarm or blinks from the LED.  After about 10-15 seconds the alarm chirps and exits programming mode.

What am I doing wrong, or what am I missing here?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought, maybe try holding it on the 4th press of the button.

if i do that, it chirps 3 times telling me its on the 3rd option.  What i want is the 4th.  I can get to the option that i want to change alright, it's actually changing it that i'm having trouble with.

Do you know were the alarm is, it have the model number on it. MIGHT be able to narrow it down, what the numbers on back of the remote.

Only things on the back of the remote are DEI, some 1-800 number, 2-66 rolling codes, and a FCC ID #.  The alarm is buried in the dash... not easy to get to.

give me the FCC id number. who installed the alarm some one from DEI. They usally "some anyways" kept records that if you are the original buyer. you may have to give your VIN number to them. if they find ya in the system ask what modle did you get.

All the steps you are going through are correct to get to the settings - I think with the older models, the remotes have to go through a learn routine but I can't remember how. I used to own one of the DEI Python alarms.

Does your alarm respond with the remote to other functions like arm and disarm?

will it make a difference if you program your remote(s) for single button arm/disarm or separate buttons arm/disarm? also, are you able to change other programming options but not this one, or are you ineffective at changing other options also?

yeah, the remote works fine outside of the programming mode.

I figured out what i was doing wrong, and as i suspected it was a simple little thing i overlooked.  Apparently I wasn't holding down the valet switch while pressing the button on the remote to switch between the settings.  Doh!!

Thanks for everyones help.
