I went into a local sound and security shop to talk to them about Compustars SWSS model.  Now they didnt carry it so I wasn't expecting them to promote it.  He recommended the viper pager alarm, which has a max distance of 1/4 mile.  His main selling point was the compustar's break down a lot and have many problems, and when that happens to me, who am I going to take it to because they are an internet company.

I know he could just be saying that to sell me their viper model, just wondering if you have heard of many or any compustar users having problems with their system? Thanks.

Ryan

Compustar is not an internet company. They actually prohibit the sale of their products over the internet, just like DEI (viper). They don't enforce that rule as rigorously as DEI does, but noone does. You can call them 888-820-3690 and they will direct you to their nearest authorized dealer for service. Of course, if you buy the alarm online- they might not authorize service. Their remotes are temperamental, but I have never had a problem getting one replaced or repaired under warranty. The DEI is probably a more reliable system, but the SS has the longest range on the market.

Since I will be installing this myself anyways I guess it doesn't matter if they come with a warranty since it will be voided if it's not installed by a dealer correct?

Yep. I even called to confirm, it must be purchased and installed by an authorized Compustar dealer.
