We've been installing Security and Remote Starters and Keyless for a long time. I thought it would be nice to have a thread that everyone can write in on, any tricks and/or short cuts that may make life easier.

So please post anything that helps, thanks

  • When running wires in tight areas use a brake calbe from a mountain bike as a fish tool. It's cheap ( about $0.50 /foot ) and it has a flexible plastic coating on it.
  • I try to use the injector wires as much as possible when looking for a tach signal. It's easy to find and also a reliable source for a tach signal. ( This is not always the case, buy 95 % of the time you can do this ).
  • When fiberglassing anything, start standing with a block instead of air tools to get straight , flat or curved peices wavefree. This will allow for you to get a finished project without having any low spots from a sander. Start with 40 grit, then go to 80, then 120 and 220. If you want to paint block at 320/400 and then paint. If your using vinyl or carpet, stop sanding at 80 so when you use glue to attach the materila to the project, there are scratch marks that the glue can grab onto

Don't forget the most important wire. The ground. Install the ground to a clean and paint free portion of the vehicle's body that won't see the elements and corode. The other golden rule RTFM. Read the @#$%*&! manual. Murphy was an optimist!

if you cut a yellow harness, RUN!!!!

97 Accord - You can put you foot on the dash and yank the radio+pocket out enough to remove the 8mm bolts on the s bracket, then just bend it back after it's out.  (dont let customer see you do this):)

Just buy helmiprene, stop wasting money on spray glue, it sucks.   Your work will be much more professional.

FishFlock every fiberglass peice possible...... its easy, covers everything, and the ladies love the way it feels ontheir skin.

ill probly think of more
