Hello all,
I just installed a honda keyless entry & remote trunk release system on my 2001 Honda Accord LX. Genuine Honda parts, everything hooked into a preexisting connector. All seemed to go well, and I began trying to program the remotes. The instructions I was given say to sit in the car with all doors/trunk closed, turn the key on (dash lights come on), and hit the lock button for a second or so within 5 seconds. Then turn the key off. Repeat this for a total of three times, then turn the key back on and press lock once more and the locks should make a "clunk" sound. They do. The system is apparently in programming mode now. From this point, I have 5 seconds to hit lock on each remote I want programmed. I tried doing both remotes - each time, another expected "clunk" noise.
I then turned the car off as directed, stepped outside, closed door and proceeded to test out the remote. When I hit lock on either remote, the car honks 4 times and the doors do not lock. When I lock the door with the door lock switch in the car, I can successfully unlock the doors with the remote.
The icing on this cake is that the trunk doesn't open when I hit the option button, either. Anyone have any suggestions?
Much Appreciated,
-D
Well, after RTFM, I guess one of my doors wasn't shut all the way - that's what the honks mean.
Works fine now :)
nice i love it when I can't figure things out and it turns out to be something like that
dorkino, I just bought the same car w/out keyless entry. Can I ask you where you got the parts, how much they were, and if it was difficult to do. I am a mechanic for chevrolet and have worked on some honda's. Just not sure what needs to be done to install keyless entry.
Thanks
Chris
Hey Chris,
I bought the parts from https://handa-accessories.com. The keyless entry was about $160 or so, and I also opted for the remote trunk opener which was somewhere around $25. The install was relatively easy since there is no cutting/splicing wires necessary; everything had somewhere to plug in. That site has the installation manual online that you can download in PDF format. I'd have to say the most difficult part was trying to bolt the two relays to the steering hanger beam (if you have a friend who can hold it while you do it, it would be a piece of cake).
Also, the blue-taped wire in the trunk for the remote opener was suprisingly hard to locate. I thought I was looking for a larger wire/set of wires, since I had been messing around with the huge wiring harness up front for an hour or so; the wire itself is tiny (one little wire), and you'll need a knife to free it from the tape since you can't work enough fingers through the hole to unravel the blue tape.
You do have to remove the glove box and dash trim, so I would suggest ordering a set of cabin air filters from that site as well ($20 for the pair), since the filter compartment will be exposed by removing those items. You'll also remove the bar that blocks the filter door (3 screws hold it on...real easy). Instructions are here: https://www.micronair.com/produkte/produkte-detailanzeige.cfm?ModellID=272&MarktSelected=n&ModellnameSelected=Alle&MarkeSelected=6
Good luck , and post back if you have any problems with the install!
