What's the difference between actuators and solenoids?  I currently have a CRX with shaved door handles, which were installed by a local Car Audio shop.  I plan on buying a 4 door civic within the next month and I would like to install door poppers on it also.  My CRX uses actuators, but most of the shaved door kits I see use solenoids.  So, my question is should I use actuators or solenoids, and why?  Also, should I buy a kit, or just piece it together myself?

Oh, and just to let you guys know... I did a search on both solenoids and acutators, but nothing really answered my questions.

35lb solenoids IMO, actuators only put out 8-12lbs of pull and generally isn't enough to open a door.

A soloniod is strictly magnetic, you apply a voltage on a coil and draw a great bit of current, this produces a magnetic field and moves the plunger in the middle of the coil, similar to the way a relay move the arm. This action produces a good deal od force but it is quick and jerky, good for popping doors and other things where short range and high force is needed.

Actuators use motors to an arm that is usually threaded, the gears can move much slower and more controlled, as well as a longer motion...

as far as I know anyway...

Is there a particular brand of shaved door handle kit that you guys would recommend?  Like AutoLoc or something?
