Hi , this is my first post and I start with a request for help. I bought a Avital2200 and now I have problems operating the door locks from it.

The Avital produces constant (-) on the locked wire and constant (+) on the unlock wire. When you push the button on the remote to lock or unlock the wires change polarity.

My original doorlocks need signals from two pairs of cables :

1. ) The first pair waits for a (+) pulse on the cable for lock or a (+) pulse on the other cable for unlock. But just a pulse - no constant juice !

2.) The other pair of cables provide constant (+) and constant (-) to(!!!) the control unit(Avital). Everytime the switch for open or closed is pushed those two constant cables get a short connect from the control unit(Avital or a Relay) . This causes the polarity of the 2 cables to change. Actually I can connect the cables with a screw driver and the same thing happens - the polarity changes.

My questions : Is there a way to provide these sets of signals with just that Avital 2200? Or will I always need relays? What kind of relays do I need? Where do I get them? This will be the first time I am dealing in relays, so I do not know whether they have standard names or numbers...(but I am good in connecting, reading circuits, soldering, etc).

Electric thanx - brenfan

First of all, we need to know what type of vehicle this is going in

It' a '95 Miata but the lockssystem is no name. All I found out was that they were also used in BMWs and only in Europe. But is that really important? I know what signals I need.  My problem is what relays convert the Avital signals to what I need?

Your alarm should have came with a optional relay pack.  If not, follow the diagram in the relay section of this site for adding actuators.

This is practically identical to the 5 wire alternating 12V(+) system above. The only difference is there's no switch! Both motor legs rest at ground at the relays. To lock or unlock the vehicle, polarity is changed on one motor leg.
