I have a Prestige alarm and one of the transmitters doesn't work anymore. The other one still works. I disconnected the power and hooked it back up to see if I could reprogram it and it still doesn't work. Any clues or am I over looking something!?
First check the battery in the transmitter with your meter. It should read 12V. If necessary replace it. If the transmitter does not appear to work after you've changed the battery, it's likely you will need to replace it if you want a second remote. If you were referring to disconnecting power to the alarm then reconnecting it, that's not going to have any effect one way or the other on any transmitter working. BTW, which Prestige alarm do you have?
Aps15kb, I was told that by disconnecting the battery that the alarm will read the transmitter thus reprograming it. I checked the battery and it is good. The L.E.D. works but it doesn't work the alarm.
Have you tried entering the alarm's "Programming Mode" and reprogramming the transmitter? I believe to enter programming on that unit you first turn the key to the "Run" position, then immediately turn the valet switch on and off 3 times. The first stage of programming is for channel one. Immediately press the first button on the transmitter that isn't working and should should here a confirmation chirp. If the unit does not respond with that transmitter, try your working transmitter, it should respond. If it does respond, move the valet switch on and off once more to program the second channel. If you can not enter the alarm's programming mode, make sure you have 12V+ on the Yellow lead of the alarm only when the key is in the "Run" position.
Let me know what you find. If you are having trouble entering the alarms programming mode, I'll double check the programming instructions for your model tomorrow .
