on the romote start primary harnes 7-pin connector....blue wire, the book says "status output" but it doesn't explain exactly what that means. I am needing an output to prove that the engine is actually running. Hope that's what this does. If not, let me know.  Thanks

It would generally be used to activate an immobilizer defeat, such as 555F. It is something that is active when the remote start is on.

to be more specific, its negative(-) when ur RS is engage and output about 200mA which is enuff for a relay coil.

Is there an output on the 791xv that will turn on only when the engine is running?

What are you trying to do, it would be easier then answering questions like that. No there is no output that the alarm has when the engine is running. There is an output, status output, that shows when the car is remote started. Your question is loaded.

I am trying to control a gasoline powered generator. I need a signal that proves the engine is running before I accelerate up from idle to full speed. Now what what do you think? Thanks.

You would need the tach wire. If the generator has a AC or pulsing ignition bases system, it should work. That would be the PURPLE / white wire on the smaller harness. You'll just have to test on the wiring on the generator for something that varies in voltage (AC). Low to high voltage depending on the throttle position.

But I just need a clean  (-) output from the 791xv when the engine is running to energize a relay.

since I want to use all (-) outputs to my own relays from the remoote start primary harness with 7-pin connector, can I just cut the connector off the end that connects to the relay satellite and discard the relay satelite. I am needing the (-) signals for inputs to a PLC which require (-) instead of (+) inputs. Now, if I do that what do I do with the yellow wire?

Connect it to the ignition wire.  The 791 comes with a 4 pin harness that plugs into the satellite that will  give you the outputs you need.

-am a bit confuse of ur statement.

-so youre not using the remote starter?
-if not you can just discard the relay satellite and 7-pin connector ribbon. but to retain the ignition input(yellow like you stated), use the 4-pin harness(mostly like you wont use this harness again) like raydawg357 stated above.
-you need to modify the clip lil bit to fit into the 7pin and use the second (pin) from the left(brain facin up)

-i did it it this way for several customers whom didnt wanted RStarter.
-its good this way, if youre to use the 7pin harness and cut the wire up to only use the ignition input(yelllow), it would look like mess. also, you might want to add remote start in the future so you want to keep everythign as is.

good luck, i hope it answers ur questoni.
