Window Modules in a 89 VW GTi

I got a VW Gti, i was wondering where i had to find the power wires for the window mods.  The switch is in the center console.  Do i have to go into the door?  If so, would i have to go into both doors being that there probably aren't wires going to the pass side from the drivers?

windows modules and vw/audi vehicles of this generation do not mix well. windows modules are typically designed for window motor wires to rest at ground on both wires, then reverse-polarity to have +12v on one of the wires to make the motor move....just like door lock actuators. the direction of movement depends on which wire receives the +12v. however, this car's pwr windows motor wires both rest at +12v when the ignition is on, and reverse polarity through the switch to receive a ground signal to make the window motor move. you can find these wires right at the back of the switches. according to memory, they should lead directly from the switches into their respective door panels to the window motors themselves.

the moral of the story is that i don't think windows modules will work on these cars.

btw, i don't recall any 89 gti's with factory pwr windows. but then again, i might be wrong....

are they oem, or aftermarket pwr windows? if they're aftermarket, the windows modules should work as normal, but getting the wires at the motors should be a safer bet.

If you really want to you can do power window modules on these cars its a little tricky.  I have smart windows4 on my scirocco and two gli's.  the windows do rest at positive and are negative trigger.  This will work with clifford modules, they do learn negative trigger, however, the windows will move with the ignition off using the factory switches, which I didn't want.  So I depinned the factory plugs behind the switches and moved some wires around to make them positive trigger rest at negative.  A little bit involved but it can be done.
