I am really wanting to install the brain in the rear of a cargo van that has no windows at all except for the two front doors and the windshield. that means the antenna cable is not long enough to reach to the front glass. I still want the best range I can get, so I have 2 Questions. 1. Can the cable be extended? and 2. Can I mount it outside on the roof? If so, how do I make it weatherproof?

I'm sure the cable can be extended. Just snip the wires, and add more length to it.

well, the local dealer told me that the range goes down horribly when you extend the cable. I'm not sure I buy that. It sounds more reasonable to me that you should be able to extend it. Don't know why DEI didn't anticipate the need for a longer cable.

You may be able to get away with putting the antenna behind the tail light. You should be able to use rubberized undercoating to weatherproof the antenna.

The range will CHANGE if you cut the wire and make it shorter or longer.
If it gives more or less range I can't tell , depends how lucky you are.
