My vehicle is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.  I have recently installed a remote start unit on the vehicle (Jensen brand.)  I want my vehicle to stay armed during the remote start operation.  As it is, I activate the remote start, the vehicle starts, but then it disarms the factory alarm system.  Is there a bypass module or some other type of module that will keep the alarm active through remote start operations and when it shuts down?

Or are there any other suggestions?

You should have an output for re-arm after start......just use this and connect it to the lock switch wire.

I have done that already.  It locks the doors, but does not arm the system.  The system will not rearm even if I push the lock button on the keyfob.  Some say it is possible to arm it while the remote start is running, but I don't understand how.  I have looked at the wiring diagrams all through the vehicle, even the anti-theft system wiring diagrams.  I understand it will take a module that talks through the pci bus wire to tell the vehicle to arm.  Do you know of any such module?

Now one thing that may affect this (I don't know, but...) is that I did not wire a transponder (key) bypass module.  What I did is used my spare key, shaved off the metal, and stuck the key next to the ignition.  It detects the key is in, and remote starts perfectly.  I did this because I bought a transponder kit, but it would not work.  Maybe I have the wrong one, I don't know.  But I don't see why the transponder kit would do any different than how I have it set up now.  It detects the key, and then I can move the key away, and it will still not arm the vehicle when I push the lock button, or let the remote start pulse a lock signal.  Only when the remote start is not running will it let me arm the system.  (If that helps with anything.)  Maybe I need to change something??

One thing that may affect this, (I don't know for sure) is that I don't have a transponder bypass kit.  To test, I put the key in the ignition, start the vehicle, and it starts fine.  Then I can remove the key, and close the door, and let the doors lock, or push the lock button.  It does not arm the vehicle while the remote start is running.  I tried a transponder kit, but it did not let the vehicle stay running (now maybe I have the wrong one, I don't know).  Is there something I need to change?   There is one more wire on my remote start module that says this is your alarm bypass output.  Instructions say, this will allow your vehicle's anti theft system to stay armed during the remote start procedures.  But there is nowhere to connect that wire to that I know of.  I have tried everything I can think of, even through all the diagrams I can think of for the vehicle.  The only thing I can think of is a pci signal telling the vehicle to arm.  Now if there is a wire somewhere, I have not seen it.  Any ideas?

one thing that can and may happen is that the car will read both keys and cause a the system to shut down......most systems are designed to read one key at a time....when you remote start the jeep and then put the key in the ign., you are sending a sencond signal to the factory unit. i would use the correct by-pass kit so that you dont cause the car to shut down.....

the part should be a JDL or JDL-PK for the by-pass kit..........

Is that the same thing as the 455J module?  I have this one, and it locks and unlocks the doors.    This JDL-PK I notice can be used without a key once it is programmed, is that right? 

Also, will this new JDL-PK module do the job, keeping the vehicle armed through the remote start run?

Only way to arm alarm when vehicle is on is to interupt the ignition input to the factory alarm when the vehicle is remote started.

Why are you concerned about the alarm being armed? You already defeated one security feature of the vehicle by leaving the head of the key next to the key cylinder, so why worry about the alarm arming? Fix your ghetto transponder bypass first. Did you try using a 555c? They are easy to program if you follow the instructions exactly. How many non-hacked up keys do you have left?

That's what I am after.  How do I interupt the ignition input to the factory alarm?  I have looked into this very deeply already.  My friend knows electronics very well.  He has the ability to build a programmable smartchip, etc. that he can put in the vehicle to run whatever he wants in the vehicle.  He said all he needs is time.  Whether he can do it or not, I don't know,  but I don't want to go that route.  I am wondering if there is a simple way that somebody has already figured out. 

About the key, that was only for testing while we were trying to figure out the alarm.  I appreciate your advise, and will not leave it that way.  It was mostly just a quick fix to test the remote start. 

I guess it might help to explain why.  With about $6,000 worth of equipment in my vehicle, I just don't want to have something happen.  If I remote start my vehicle, let's say on my way out of a superstore or the warehouse, and I have to go back in to grab something.  If someone were to break the window, open the door, and take something, the alarm would not set off.  That's my ONLY concern here.  If there is no fix, I will look into an aftermarket alarm system.   Thanks you guys for all your help.

Sorry I didn't state that clearly at first.  The instructions in my remote start manual say, disconnect the ignition input to the factory alarm system, and connect this (the yellow/black) wire to it.  This yellow/black wire is supposed to work like the ignition input to the factory alarm does, only it will not have power until the key is turned in the ignition.  Then the key in the ignition takes over, and the vehicle is on normal run mode (not off the remote start).  I may sound a little mixed up, but my friend could explain it in detail.  I am just looking for an alternative from what I have.

No this wire does not go to a factory alarm, only works with aftermarket alarms. There is no way to arm the factory alarm while the vehicle is running. You may be able to re-arm the factory alarm after the remote start shuts down, at the most.

OK, if I go with an aftermarket alarm, Do I have to find one compatible with the remote start?  I have a Jensen brand remote start.  But I can't find an alarm but that it has two different keyfobs.  How do I tie in an aftermarket alarm to this remote start system?
