What is the best brand of alarm for a 1999 truck?

Could anyone tell me what the best brand of alarm based on their experience for a 1999 Ford Truck with a dome light delay?

I assume that it must be programable since my current alarm does not work with the dome light delay.

Hey, I have a Viper 550esp.  I don't have a delayed domelight, but the directions say the following (if you do):

"Most vehicles use negative door trigger circuits.  Connect the green wire to a wire which shows
ground when any door is opened. In vehicles with factory delays on the domelight circuit, there is
usually a wire that is unaffected by the delay circuit."

So it sounds like even if you have a delay, there's still a wire to use that won't be affected by the delay.

That is correct. Most vehicles with dome light delay do have pin switch wires that are unaffected however they are usually isolated circuits which means that you would need to diode isolate them (a bit inconvenient on the installation). Additionally, most vehicles do have a negative door trigger circuit, except Ford. Fords are just about the only vehicles using positive door pin circuits.  As far as brand name goes, I would say that you can't go wrong with anything from Omega (Excalibur, K-9, Crime Guard), Audiovox, or DEI since they are all manufactured in the same place. You'll just need to look at features that best suit what you want. I'm not sure about other brands but I know that the Omega alarms will compensate for domelight fade. They will ignore the door trigger input (if it's "activated" when the alarm is armed) until the door zone is secure. Then it will monitor it correctly. In other words, it won't care that there is a fading domelight because it will ignore the input until the domelight is completely off. I hope this helps some.
