Recently purchased a 4dr 96 Civic LX that has PW & PDL, the door locks dont work. I know the factory radio controls the KEYLESS entry, but I dont need fac. keyless, I want the locks to work.

So, after probing w/ meter and getting nowhere, a guy at a local stereo shop said that an aftermarket alarm would control the locks! I installed a DEI alarm which works perfect except the door locks, Nothing! Did more probing and I figured the actuators may be blown somehow? Replaced them.... Nothing! OK Im pissed! I then conclude that it must be the door lock control relay in the door right?....Nope! did that and nothing! DAMMIT

Maybe I still need the radio? Do I have any other options? this guy says that he can hook up some relays in it (w/out buying the radio) for $80 plus $20 for relays, but I know a little bit about relays. does anyone know how it is wired I can do it myself!

What make and modle of alarm did u put in, and how did you hook up the door locks. The alarm should be able to contraol the lock with out the radio.

All the OEM radio does for the keyless entry is complete a ground loop. Without the radio, the circuit is open and the keyless doesn't work, but the power locks still work. Have you metered the wires at the switch ?

Removing the factory radio will not prevent the locks from working. This may be silly, but has anyone checked the fuse? Also you can pull the little panel that has the switch and see if it is working properly, it is only 1 screw. From there you need to check the factory relays.

hey thanks for all the replies!

I did alot more than what I wrote, didn't want to get too complicated!

I checked the wires behind the radio and they are all cut like someone stole it w/ the harness.  The grn/red and grn/blk are connected so the dome light works. I installed a Rattler DEI 310D and sent the grn/ blk to the grn/ wht  and the voilet/blk to the grn/ornge (like thay said in the manual!) there were 2 solid violet wires that were connected and grounded.  thats what the CS technician told me because Hondas have neg. triggered locks.

tested all connections using a pos. and probing with the negative.  the alarm lock wires send current when the arm/unarm buttons are pressed.  The grn/org & grn/wht wires @ the door lock switch only changed .10 points on the meter when switched, but remarkably the Civic lock switch fits in my Accord and it controlled those locks, so the switch is good!  everything starting @ the switch-->relay-->connector before the actuator--> then to the actuator is only changing .10 wheras in my Accord the reading drops from 13 to 0 and then back up to 13

said that I shouldnt need the fact. radio to controll it but it seems like theres no power..  or neg??? If I wasnt clear about anything, let me know

is there a way to jump (hot wire) the actuator and check to see if they work?? then maybe i can work backwards from the actuator-->connector-->relay-->switch-->DL wires behind radio -to find problem

oh btw all i did was plug in the new actuators to see if it would work, do they have to be completely installed to work??

Did you check the fuse under the hood for the locks yet? If you have a helms, or you can find one online, page 23-219 has all the trouble shooting information that you will need for the locks. Also just found out that the door lock control module, basicaly the relays, are inside the drivers door and this could be the problem. Here are some links for the helms.

Then it sounds like some problems. Unless you know advanced troubleshooting then you should probably find some one or take it to the dealer.

the dealer wants me to pay them money to do the same thing that i am doing, so id rather save the money. Been there and all they tell me is to try this and try that but its the same sh*t that i have already done! dealers-deal, thats why theyre called dealers!!  Besides Ive already spent enough, i dont need a initial $60 + $65 per/hr charge on top of everything
