I have a question for everyone that has me stumped. I installed an Absolute FM-8500 remote start/alarm in a 96 Yukon about four weeks ago. Since that time it has went through a total of four remotes. The two originals, and two others from known good systems(my pickup to be exact). The remotes will work fine for a few days, then they just go all to sh** and refuse to function, for that vehicle or any other vehicle if they are reprogrammed. Would like to know if anybody has ever heard of an alarm module being able to screw up the remote transmitters to the point that they will no longer function??? Thanks everyone.

nope and if it's not a 2 way system i'd have to say it's not even possible, since there is no reverse communication... if it is a 2 way system i guess it could be possible but quite unlikely..... ------------- Kevin Gerry

Kevin, It is a two-way system, and I agree quite unlikely, but do you have any idea what else would scrap four remotes in as many weeks? This has really got me dumbfounded. Is there any possibility of reaction to say an X-ray machine or something like that? The owner works for a chiropractor and does some X-rays now and then, or poss some other electromagnetic interference? Thanks again. ------------- If it don't fit, Force it.

that's gonna be a head scratcher.... could be the Xray machine but i would look for a different localized problem... is the customer parking next to or close to a cell tower...does he throw his keys on top of the microwave at work? etc, etc..... do these remotes completely fail or do they just lose programming? have you tried to reprogram the remote again? when they fail how do they fail? do they still act as a 1 way remote and only lose confirmation capabilites or do they just emit a painful gasp and cease to be? ------------- Kevin Gerry

Could not determine parking locations, or microwave scenario, but as far as failing goes they are basically paperweights now. One of the four I got to reprogram and it worked for about three arm/disarm cycles then it too went tits up. one of them even emits a low hoarse grunt of a chirp, and sends random signals to the alarm(start, windows up, windows down, lock, unlock, panic) and that is a mucho PITA. am sending them back for replacements, but hopefully they can tell me what went wrong with them. Thanks again for the input.

Are you an authorized dealer for the alarm that was installed? I would try calling them and see if they know of any defects.
