Subject: alarm works without ground?

i am installing a 690XV in my 90 Integra. as i tested everything last night, i noticed that the alarm was working when there was no ground applied to the system. there is a single ground wire running accross the dash for the system that has the hood mercury switch and siren on it only. it is not connected to ground. the battery backup is hooked to the power of the alarm, but the ground is not attached to anything yet. the ground for the alarm is not attached to anything either. when i apply power to the alarm, it works with no apparent ground. the only thing i can think of is somehow it is being grounded through the sensors. the siren works normally. the mercury switch triggers the alarm when the hood is open. any ideas why i have ground when there should be none?

This is normal. The alarm will try to ground through some of the wires such as ignition or lights. The alarm will not work properly most of the time when it is trying to ground this way.

Try using the alarm with the key turned on. It probably won't function.

when the alarm is armed and i try to start the car, it works normally. the siren sounds and the starter won't engage. i get the "IGN" signal on the remote. it seems to work just fine. theonly thing is the ground wire is laying on the floor. i plan on connecting the ground wires anyway. just wanted to make sure i wasn't going crazy or anything.

Usually the alarm will try to ground through the siren. It will sound very low and funny. ------------- ~The Rookie~

when i plugged the fuse in at the battery, i got a real low, muffled double chirp. when i test the alarm, the siren sounds full blast, as my wife can attest to. everything seems to work normally and the car still works, so i am going to run with it.

ground the alarm or it could damage whatever its grounding through. just because you are being stupid about it and not using a chasis ground, i hope it takes out your BCM or ECU, whatever your vehicles have thats costs the most. it'd be funny to damage a $1000 part over a ring terminal and a screw, ass.
