My alarm remote has a tendancy to not work at times and as i have no key locks on my car, i often get get trapped. I want to wire a switch directly to the solenoid in my door so i can at least open the door. I have a 5 wire solenoid, what is the best way to wire up the switch. Thanks

There are Pressure, Magnetic, Touch, etc. switches U could probably use. It would depend on your personal preferences. Or U could put a CHEAP Keyless Entry on (maybe even used, A lot of Stereo shops get old stuff they have to take off) and be done with it ------------- MO

A trick I used to use for applications like this was to use a magnetic reed switch inside a tail light. Stash the magnet that comes with the switch behind the gas filler door. You need a normally open switch. If you have aftermarket door locks, there should be a lock and unlock trigger on the module you can use the reed switch to activate. The beauty of the system is that weather shouldn't be a problem and you don't run the risk of someone finding the hinden switch.

The reed switch looks like the way forward. I have a clifford but is there a way i can bypass the alarm and link directly to the solenoid. I'm assuming a pulse sent to one one the wires would unlock, which one though?

That device does not work consistently, as I have installed five of them. Just another toy, which doesnt work very well.
As it was stated before, using a reed switch is simple and direct approach to your problem.

The only problem with the "Tap Magic" is your around anybody all they have to do is listen to how many taps you hit and they have your code

You can't simply tap into the wiring for the actuator with a switch. You will need to add one or more relays to activate it. You would have to determine which wires do what on the relay to figure out how to wire them up.
