I have a clifford avantguarde v4 in my auto 1990 nissan 240sx with an autostart in it. i press the button in the remote and the car will just keep turning and *almost*start but not start. car starts fine normally though... what can be causing this? what could i have missed?

Did you hook up the 2nd starter wire ( BLACK / YELLOW ) ? If the remote starter doesn't have an output for a 2nd starter, you can use this diagram : 2nd Starter Relay Circuit------------- Jeff

hmmmm. no i didnt hook up the second starter, now that i remember i remember my car having 2 of them. how can i tell the difference between the first and the second? when i turn the key i have 2 wires that put out 12v+ and i just kinda set one aside and used the one on the wiring diagram.

does 86 have to be connected to the ground from the starter or would any good grounding point do?

I just went through something similar to this on my install (grabbed a pink w/white wire instead of just pink). Turn the key to the ON position (the position you would have it in when it is running). Try to auto start the vehicle. If it starts then you’re missing your Ign 2.

well i went to a clifford dealer who gave me a free switch and advice. my switch was bad so when i swapped it out all is well. also i can auto start the car in accessory then move it to ign. and keep it running but i cant autostart it in ign. the guy i talked to at the place told me that he thinks my problem is because im not getting a good tach signal, then told me to find a good fuel injector 12v and tap into that and id be set. im gonna try that tomorrow probabbly and post my results

ok so i messed with it some more. with the relay hooked up to ground the car will turn the same but still will not catch. i tried tapping into the injector wire, and an ignition signal off the ecu. the car still behaves the exact same way. what could i be missing?

There is a start time that can be reprogramed in the unit. It has a time that can be adjusted to set how long the signal is sent to the starter. Kindof how long you hold the key in start possition. Might look into that.
