avistart starts but overgrinds starter!

I installed a avistart 4500 into a 03 hyundai accent. when I press the start button on the remote, everything goes as normal, the engine starts but the starter doenst let go!, it never realizes the car starts!

Now Im sure you are all gonna jump on "did you hook up/learn the tachometer input?"

Yes. my tach output is 1.45 volts AC at idle and over 7 volts AC revved up. the avistart 4500 does seem to learn the tach, because it flashes the light twice like its supposed to, if I leave the tach wire disconnected, it never learns. I tried both the tach ign wire and a wire at one of the injectors, relearned lots of times with no luck. I cant find any info on the internet searches. Im beginning to think the device is defective.

I read that there is alternatives to the tach input, and to contact avital for details, but I cant find those details anywhere

is the brain, by default, set up for tach learn?  or is it on voltage?

also, make sure you have the 12v, starter, ign 1, accy 1, and accy 2 (may not be required for remote start) wired up.  if you are missing and ign or accy it might not start right.

tach locations:  grey at the ECM under driver dash, pin 8, or blue or brown at the ignition coils.

I have the ign1 and acc1 wires wired in as per the manual and wiring diagrams of the unit. There is only the ign1, no ign2, and one acc(heater/ac). If there was ign2, it isnt in the accent wiring diagrams.

This particular model doesnt have an option for start based on voltage detect, only tach detect, (at least nothing documented about voltage detect start). I wired the tach wire to one of the coil wires (in my case, green or white). and metered it OK. it seems the unit DOES learn, but forgets to use the knowledge while starting the car.   So im still at a loss :(

can you verify the model #?  i've never heard of a 4500... we stock the 4200, 4300 and 4400 but i have no info to look up for you on a 4500... its not in any of my Avital catalogues as well....

Yea its a 4500 model.

here on this website its in the pulldown list, its an old model (circa 1998 I think), but was brand new.
