I have installed a remote start unit in a 2002 Ford Mustang. I am trying to get a DEI 555F to take programming but I have been unable to get it to work. It tells me to put one of my keys in the ignition and turn it to the on position, then turn the key off, then repeat this with the other key and immediately hold the 555F sensing unit ½” in front of the key hole and remote start the unit. I have done this a dozen times with not success. Should this be a one time read or constant for the car to work? All the car does is crank with no start then flashes THEFT. If I put a key in the ignition leaving it in the off position the car will remote start perfectly. Does any one have any ideas?

R U sure the 555 is turning ON? The unit needs to power up to program.
Also, R U waiting for the Teft light to go out each time U put keys in

Yes, the THEFT light goes out, and I have wired the 555 direct to power so I know it stays on. The car is not letting the remote start attempt to crank until after 10 seconds or longer. If you just stick a key in the ignition or leave the keys out it cranks imediately when you tell it to start. I think the OEM theft protection is causing this since I remembered I was unable to find the dark GREEN/ purple wire at the ECM. I don't know if how to find the wire and disable the factory security.

The transponder wiring harness should be under the dash to the right of the steering column

There are 8 wiring connector that is near the right side of the steering column...I believe it is the gray with orange tracer is your data wire. On the connector you need to work with the position 1 and position 6. Makesure you use a logic probe to verify wiring.

I think I am over my head on this... I don't have a logic probe, I just have a VOM. Can anyone help me work this out. Where can you get a logic probe?

What do I do once I have a Logic Probe?

The unit I am working with is a Prestige 996A, it appears it has circuitry to work with a transponder but I don't under stand how to do it.
