Im installing shaved door motors and poppers on an 89 civic hatchback.
I used regular door lock actuators (which I curretnly use everyday on my 75 coupe de ville 300 pound doors)
these actuators work great on the civic with the door open but when i close it up to test the whole setup the actuator does not seem to have enough torque to overcomethe added pressure on the latch.
I also tried one of the trunk release kit solenoids. same problem except way worse.
now i though i would just order some of the huge 35lb solenoids but i look at the specs and the oly have 5.8" travel versus the 3/4" to 1" travel of the door lock actuators.
im sure many people have successfully oped civic doors so whats the trick? what am i overlooking here?
thanks,
J
Is that on ALL Doors?
Have U tried the motors without the "poppers"?
I have had doors where the rubber seal was enough to "Pop" the door

Don't Learn from Others Mistakes
You Might Be the One That Knows.
Door lock actuators will pull 12 lbs, trunk solenoids will pull 8 lbs, and door solenoides usually are 35+, stats are per DEI equiptment and are approx. What you need is the 35 pounders. The through isn't so much as important as the ability to pull. I used the 35 lbs solenoids succesfully on my civic when the handles were shaved, but niether the actuators or trunk pop soleniods wouldn't do the trick.

Thanks Mo12, that s a good idea, i havd had the same experience. Ill try that as wel.
Auex: did you hook the 35 lb directly tot the door pull as usuall? only reaosn i ask is because of the throw on the solenoid.
where did you fit that on the civic door? Im assuming you had to do some sheetmetal surgery on the inner door skin?
thanks
I hooked it up to the rod going to the inner door handle. I didn't have to do any surgery.

i have allways used dei trunk solinoids on all my cars that i removed the handles in. usally i place them on the latch that was going to the outside handle. Allthough sometimes after install they might need a little ajustment in the tension and making sure the window can roll all the way down. hope this helps.. Ps ive had the same solinoids in my nissan for over 5 yrs now and still no problems the part number is 552t
