You can go directly to the >>>> for the problem, but below I have listed ANYTHING you'd need to know about the problem
So, here's the scenario:
I have a 98 Pontiac Grand Am and I recently installed an Autopage 850LCD, DEI 555L, and one power window roll-up module. I installed everything on Saturday and when I was done EVERYTHING worked great.
So now heres the break down of the problem. On Saturday everything was good... had no problems at all with the alarm and all. Then Sunday I decided to make a couple adjustments on it. I turned the door check from 3 seconds to 30 seconds; I turned on pathway illumination feature; and I told the doors to lock after the remote start turns off (because my GM unlocks the doors after the remote start turns off). In addition to that, I siliconed up the hole in the firewall I used to run the hoodpin and siren wire.
>>>> NOW, the problem(s)! Last night (Sunday night) I remote started my car... the car started, the remote told me and all was good. The remote got to 0:08 and then the car turned off... for 5 seconds, then turned back on, and the remote went back to 0:10... I was a little confused at that, but whatever I thought maybe it was a freak thing so I let it run... a minute later it did the same thing. Weird, yes. So I reset the remote (changed the battery and reprogrammed it to the brain) thinking that would help. Went for a drive, came back, got out of the car and armed it. Not 15 seconds after I armed it it PANICS and the remote tells me the door is open. So I'm thinking this is odd, because A) the door wasn't open; B) the dome light wasn't on; C) the alarm isn't even supposed to check that zone til 30 seconds, and even then it should give me a faulty zone alert (if im not mistaken). So I disarmed it and re-armed it and it was fine. Then this morning (monday) I remote started it... it ran through the whole ten minutes and was fine. Drove to lunch, armed it, it was fine. Drove to work after driving for like 45 minutes... armed it... PANIC and tells me the door is open.
There's the scenario guys... this is getting old and embarrassing, but I do have ONE idea that might be the problem. The alarm, window rollup module, 555L, and trunk release relay are all grounded in the same spot... Could that cause this? Or did the silicone get hot and get on the brain or something? This is just really weird because aside from that EVERYTHING works as it should...
If you read this much, I thank you deeply... I just need some help here, and I really appreciate any input
Thanks guys! -Bob

I just put one in mine last week and having some problems too. Yesterday the remote start flooded the engine. Don't know how because the truck itself is in perfect working order. Also last night started from work and the screen told me something had just tripped the shock sensor and a door was open. This I found to be really interesting because I never included the shock sensor in my installation. Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. I am uninstalling this unit, selling and installing on someone elses vehicle. Can't wait ------------- JKJ

Well I like mine other than the problems listed above... I've never had a problem with Autopage before (and I've installed two 650's and a 310) so this is odd to me. Its not a bad unit when it works right, especially considering I paid $150 for it...
Do you think its possible that we both have bad grounds? Or bad brains? -Bob -------------

You have more experience with this brand than I do. My ground is good. Most of my problem with the unit is the fact that the tach sense operation does not function correctly. Currently I am more confused as ever as to whether thats my fault or the unit's fault. At the end of the day I chose to rid it due to the fact that I have seen much better quality and price is not a considertion. That and I live in Alaska and it gets really freaking cold here, so they gotta work and work well. You might try cutting power to it for a few minutes. Verifying grounds and or splitting a few up. ------------- JKJ

Splitting up the grounds might be a good idea...
I used voltage sense for mine instead of tach sense and it works great... never over or under cranks it. I've used this on all the autopage's I've installed. What kind of car do you have? Did you try using voltage sense? -Bob -------------

I am using voltage sense and I don't like it. I am installing on a 2000 chev pick up. The problem is that when it gets to about -5 or lower it takes longer to start than 0.6 start duration I have programmed. So it keeps barely starting the motor until its flooded. No good. If I program it to start longer and it sounds horrible. No good.

Thats the time sense mode you are speaking of... not voltage sense...

You still have to program a starter time in voltage sense also. Read the instructions carefully.

Weird... mine seems to crank different every time... I just realized that in the manual but I think its wrong... why would you ALSO be able to check HI and LOW level... just to see that the car is running? -------------

I belive that is it exactly. To see if it is running. Take the fuse from your fuel pump circuit and then try to remote start. It should try to start for the same short duration (after it burns what fuel was left in the rails) over and over as opposed to long bursts of continous cranking.

Nope... freaked out again once I got to work... this is getting old (though I havent changed the grounds yet... havent had time) but would that really do something like this? 20-30 sec after I arm it panics and says the door is open... and its like every other third time I arm it... could the heat under the dash cause something like this? I know SOMEONE here has an idea...
Thanks -Bob -------------

Alright... yesterday I did a few things. I changed the grounds for the system (and that still didn't solve it) but anyways I think I figured it out. The remote start problem was the voltage check level I thought... it was set on high and the manual says if the car turns off and restarts this is why and I should set it to low. I did this and ran it thru its ten minute cycle like 10 times and it didn't fail once. The alarm thing, I turned on the "with domelight after ignition" which checks the door zone after 45 seconds instead of the 30 I had it set at. So far today and yesterday I armed it like 15 times and no problems yet... I think the problem is solved. Let this be a reference to anyone who has similar issues like this. -Bob -------------
