Hello people, :DI was referenced to this site by the automotive forum for electrical expertise. My dilemma is this.
for my 97 Tahoe, if I am more than 5 feet away, the remote's are useless. I have tried everything. new batteries, new remotes, programmed them ok, everything works EXCEPT distance. My alarm is a GM oem which works great, but it doesnt solve my problem as there is no antenna to the 'brain'. I have a new dipole extended range antenna to install, but can not locate the RKE control to hook it up, if that unit even has an antenna. Please oh wise and experienced electrical gurus, help this poor soul.:errr:
Probably won't do any good to look at Module:

Thanks mo12v,
Why do you say it wont do me any good to look a the module? does it have an antenna hook up? the main reason I thought it would help is because I would think that is where one would be if any. If there is a better solution, please enlighten me. I am at my wits end.The worst part is in the winter and I live in Utah, so any help is appreciated.
Have seen a few of these & the best thing (if U want to keep Factory) is replace it. Sometimes it will help to move the Module, because of RF interference in that location, but if U have replaced batteries in Remotes ( U may even want to try another Remote to make sure yours is not the problem) the unit will most likely be the problem.
Have you check with GM service for any bulletins on this vehicle. I think there is. The Factory remotes usually R only good for 30 feet

OK, since the 2 new remotes i programmed do the same thing, I'll try to relocate the RKE 1st. Would it be easier to find if I remove the dash trim? since it is easy to pop out? What does the darn thing look like? btw, this is great!! this thing has been drving me nuts? makes sense about the interference, with all the other harnesses there. I saw a tbs the other day but forgot it, i'll google it and see if it's worth the hassle.
