I'll be installing Compustar 2WSS-AS alarm in my 1998 Ford Explorer soon but as I'm preparing to that task I found one problem I need help with. I will need to connect starter key side and starter motor side to correct wires. That's the problem. I can find starter wire but how will I get "sides" ?

You will have to cut that starter wire. Then connect your wires to the sides.

It wasnt a stupid question. It would have been stupid of you, *IF* you had proceeded to wire the vehicle without the correct information.

Everyone learns by doing, sometimes we all need a graphical example to understand the process.

Got into first problem during my installation. I can't find Tachometer wire. I know its tan / YELLOW wire located at PCM module on firewall towards passenger side. I could use some help locating PCM unit. First of all is it located on firewall inside the engine compartment or is it on firewall inside passenger’s cabin? What does it looks like? Any help appreciated.

you can hook up tach to the tan (-) wire at the vehicles coil i think your car has a distributor cap and not coil pack follow the middle wire to the coil and i think you can also use a fuel injector wire i want to say it is tan also but i'm not sure, i find the compustar units easier to install and the instructions are good,

Finally found that dam Tachometer wire. It's pin #48 on PCM if anyone needs that. This was my second install so not too easy. Beside car had some old alarm and RS installed and it was a complete mess. Believe it or not most connections were made using twist-and-tape method. I ended up completely removing old installations and making all new connections.

What's the proper method of testing negative type door pin switch triggers? Do I connect (+) probe of DMM to (+)12V constant and (-) probe of DMM to the wire to be tested or (-) probe to the ground and (+) probe to the wire? I'm trying to diode isolate all door triggers but I'm having hard time confirming those wires.

My info shows:

yellow/black                    drivers door                       driver kick panel                                                                                    light GREEN/ YELLOW          drivers rear door               driver kick panel                   (N/A I have 2 door model)                      WHITE/ purple                   rear hatch                           driver kick panel                                                                                gray/red                          passenger front door        passenger kick panel                                                                             pink/light blue               passenger rear door         passenger kick panel         (N/A I have 2 door model)
