Programming Clifford 478x for Viper 790XV

I just picked up two Clifford replacement transponders for my 790xv. I've read the programming instructions, but I'm still a bit unclear as to what is to be done, especially for programming multiple transponders. Before I attempt to do this, does anyone know of a decent set of instructions or willing to provide a brief tutorial?

I'd like to keep the 790xv's original as a backup and add the two cliffords.

The alarm has remote start and trunk release.

Hi Teken,

I have the installation manual and the directions on the back of the remote package.

In the manual, if I understand steps 1,2,3 I open the door, turn key to on, and press the valet 8 times.

After step 3 it states "If adding a transmitter/receiver, a button must be taught to the unit in the Channel One or Channel Five position prior to programming other channels."

Which button? What if I'm in auto-learn?

Step 4 states "Press the transmitter button. While holding the Valet/Program switch, press the button from the transmitter that you wish to assign to that channel. The unit will chirp indicating successful programming."

Now if I'm in auto-learn, channel 8, how do I teach it each button? Is there an order?

keep in mind that because of the 2 way communication you can only program 2) two way remotes to any DEI product.... you can program 4) 1 way remotes or 1) 2 way remote and 2) 1 way remotes or 2) 2 way remotes... thats it

BTW, i dont even see a 478X listed.... if you mean the 487X then this is not a Responder remote and is not compatible with the FSK units... it is an ASK remote.... if you meant 479X then the above applies

So I just went an did it. It was much easier than I expected. However, I do now have 3 two-way remotes all programmed to the alarm. All respond properly too.

I did have one question though - when I pop the trunk using the transponder, should the trunk be shown open on the LCD or is the LCD only for alarm triggers? Mine does not display the trunk when it is opened using the transponder.

Simple test, while the alarm is in passive arming mode, does the LED show a open trunk zone?

Follow up with arming the alarm system, open the trunk without disarming, using your key. See if the sytstem trips / sounds. Does the trunk status appear on the LCD, and does it sound the alarm now?

No = Ensure that the trunk pin (zone) is active and not bypassed through programming.


- Is the trunk zone input connected to the alarm system?

- Is the trunk pin properly connected and grounded?

- Has the trunk zone been diode isolated, and proper polarity observed?

Thanks Tekken. I assumed the trunk was wired into the alarm. It seems I can open the trunk with the key without setting off the alarm... >:( Time to call the installer.
