For those on the fence about any of the above remote start slash alarms I have some experience to share.  I just finished the installation and subsequent uninstallation of an Autopage RS850LCD after 1 week of use.  After that yesterday I installed a Compustar 2WSS-AS.  Prior to that I installed a Viper 791xv in my girl friends Durango.  So how did they compare?  First of all I am not a professional installer.  I have installed only about zix remote starts including the ones listed above and all the my experience is purelu subjective to my own preferences.  Some of them may not all be generally sound.

My favorite.  The Compustar.  The quality of the unit and wiring was best of three although the Viper was very close I felt.  The compustar is very well made and installed relativley easily and immediately operated as intended.  The instructions were clear and precise and the range is most impressive, obsurdly impressive.  I am having some difficulty getting the shock sensor to operate correctly but I am pretty sure I have not found the right sensitivity setting yet.  No big deal though, when the rain was triggering it last night while I was in the movie theater I just simply turned the shock sensor off from the remote with out ever getting out of my seat!  I love this thing.

The Viper was built well and continues to operate a monthy later with out a glitch. The viper has a design flaw with the key fob battery cover which will fall off very easily.  At $100.00 to replace this will erk me. The Viper was easy to install and has a lot of features that are programmable to the users needs.  The installtion instructions were awsome the feature programming directions only lost me a couple of times.  I would definately buy again.  The range seems to be great but we have not really been that far from it yet either.

The Autopage was last in my opinion.  Still a good unit but considering the fact that I did not like the small gauge wiring used on the ignition and starter circuits and I could not ever get the tach learn feature to operate to my satisfaction made it easy to distinguish from the others.  I felt this thing had great potential due to the features it offered.  One of which was the temp senser that will display the inside temp of your car on the remote. Very cool for us up here in Alaska and when we want to know if it is warm in there yet?  The problem was execution.  The unit was not able to operate in a tach sense mode as I mentioned and as I feared when I went out to the truck one morning I found it not running and flooded (2000 chev pick up).  The installation instructions were horrible.  It was painfully clear they were written in a foreign language and translated to english although not very well.  I could go on but I wont.  I liked the unit and still feel it was the best looking and smallest package with my favorite features but in the end I wanted the quality and reliability.

Thanks for the input, I have done five installs now all on my own vehicles three crimestopper 900's which were simple to install and exelent tech support hands down and most recently a compustar 1WFM which i also found the instructions and tech support for that matter to be very good but hated the cheezy siren, I had to call them twice because i was getting very poor range 300 ft max and the first guy i spoke to was very helpful and seemed to enjoy what he did for a living but the second call i spoke with a guy who seemed to have as many questions for me such as am i quallifyed to do installs and such, never did get the range to work as advertised so i tried out a mannix 2 way pager unit it seems to have some nice features like doors locking when you press the brake and unlock when you turn off ignition, this two had instructions that were rather difficult to follow and seemed to be translated from another language and not that well either, and no phone tech with this group, just emails which don't get answered very well, I will try and figure this one out for a few more days before i yank it out for a third unit,

I have a few questions about the remote starts.
1) Which one is safest to use with my manual transmission?
2) Which ones have a "turbo timer" delay?
Thanx!

Compustar 2w900fm AS is safe to use with manual transmissions and also has turbo timer delay.

I'll throw my 2c's into this as well. The Compustar 900 mhz units are by far the best units that I have installed this year. The range is incredible as well as the user features and installer options. It is a manual safe unit as well as it has the turbo timer built into the unit. With about 6 of these under my belt so far, I have been very impressed with them and the price is very competitive as well. No need to get tech support involved with any of the units installed and all customer's have been getting over 1 mile range without any problems.
