I just finished installing an Alpine SEC-150R in my Jeep Wrangler. I want to add a piezo siren under the dash. After reviewing previous posts, it seems that the best way is to tie into the siren output with a relay. My question is: If I do this will I eliminate the soft chirp feature of the system? Is the soft chirp produced from a lower voltage output than when in full alarming mode? If I power both sirens (Alpine & piezo) with the relay, then they will get a full 12 volts everytime.
The siren output on the Alpine is 2 amps. I have purchased an inline 2 amp fast acting fuse, and am considering just wiring both sirens directly to the alarm output. If the fuse blows, then I know that they will draw more than 2 amps, and that I will have to use the relay.
Any ideas on how the soft chirp works? And will I eliminate this feature with a relay?
BTW, I admire all of you installers. Although I managed the install and feel that I did a "professional" job with all wires taped and loomed to look factory, It sure was a total pain and took LOTS of time. I should have paid the $130 for an install. At least I learned alot.
Hi logem, yes, the best way is to use a relay on the siren output. You can leave the Alpine siren connected as it is now and connect terminal 85 of an SPDT relay to the (+) siren output of the alarm. Connect terminal 86 to ground. Connect terminal 87 to constant 12V+ with a 5 amp fuse and connect terminal 30 to the positive lead of your additional siren. Connect it's negative lead to ground.
the12volt
the 12volt,
Thanks. I'll do that. The relay and Alpine siren shouldn't exceed 2 amps (I hope). I'll fuse it for safety.

i read on the mini peizo sirens that you dont need a relay. i have a crimestopper alarm do i need to add a relay.just makin sure
thanks
Some alarms may be able to handle more than one siren connected directly to it's output, but it's always a good idea (good habit) to add the relay .
Hi Mike, you're welcome. Glad I could help.
