Hey guys, a couple quick questions.  I completed my install on a 2001 Silverado, and there's a couple things I was curious about.

1.  From the factory, when I turn off my truck, the radio stays on until I open a door, well this becomes a problem when I remote start and then change my mind and turn it off.  I have to go out to my truck and open the door to turn the radio off, anyone have a solution for this?

2.  Second, occassionally when my alarm goes off pushing the channel two button not only stops it, but disarms it as well, so I have to push it again to rearm, shouldn't it only stop the siren and leave the alarm armed?

3. Last but not least, a few times I've disarmed my alarm only to have the factory system go off and start honking the horn, did I miss something on my install? Should I have bypassed someting besides the passlock??

Thanks guys, any help is greatly appreciated.

Mark

Hi Mark,

1) There a few ways you can send a ground signal to the door trigger to shut down the RAP (Retained Accessory Power). The most practical would likely be when you disarm the system.

2) Typically when you stop any alarm from sounding except when in panic mode, the alarm will disarm.

3) You will need to disarm the factory alarm when you disarm your aftermarket alarm: 18ga. Lt. Green (-) at B.C.M. in Violet connector (connect to Driver Unlock wire with diode, face cathode towards Driver unlock wire to disarm.

Mark,

Can you tell me how to got to the ignition wires harness on your truck and where it is easiest to tap the wires.  I am looking to put in a remote start but am not sure about the ignition harness.

fist of all, the disarm wire is indeed in the location listed above. but, the vehicle has positive door lock/unlock. diode isolating will only send a positive signal to the disarm which in terms wont disarm the factory alarm system.

there are several methods. you can change the signal of the pulse to (-) to disarm with a relay. or depending on your alarm, since the door locks are (+), try using the illuminated entry wire (domelight output wire usually ( - ), if your alarm has it) diode isolate with domelight wire to the disarm wire instead of the door unlock wire.

please correct me if i am wrong.
