Installing a Prestige Alarm APS996a / Starter in 1999 ACCORD ex... i have the bypass mod already.

Its quite a few years since i stopped doing installs (mostly audio systems... back when the "tape deck" was hot) to take a desk job, so i'm a little rusty and need a few questions answered before i blow a weekend figuring this out...

**1** The alarm diagram shows Ign1 Ign2 Start and Ign3 (relay required on ign3). Now, what goes where on the honda?!

**2** Do i need to connect the start wire after the fuse box or at the ignition harness if i dont plan on using starter kill?

**3** Since its an EX, i need to unlock, then relock the doors - and the alarm has outputs for this. Need they be relayed? The alarm provides a "pulsed ground output before start" and a "pulsed ground output" after start. and where do they get connected?

**4** Anyone used the Audiovox Carlink Interface yet? Looks like i can actually "page" commands from a phone to the starter and alarm. I'll add that on once the starter is in and working.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.   Oh, and DONT take a desk job.

Ajbalch,

Here is the wiring diagram for your car. Start with this and see how far you can get on the install. If you are stuck somewhere post your question and someone will be more than happy to help you out. Don't worry about getting the bypass module install for now. You can do that later when you have the remote starter working.

Notes: NOTE: This vehicle has an immobilizer system that needs to be bypassed when adding remote start. Use DEI part number 555H or 555U. *1 Must interrupt the wire between the keyswitch and the fusebox, not between the fusebox and the starter, to keep the check engine light from coming on. *2 Use BLACK/ white for lock and GREEN/ red for unlock on LX models without factory security. These wires are located in a two pin gray connector by the front of the drivers side fuse box. *3 in a green 20 pin connector. *4 yellow on the EX and lt. GREEN/ red on the LX *5 located in the same plug as the door lock wires. Also found in a 14 pin green plug at the drivers fuse box on the EX model. *6 Only available on the EX model. *7 In a green 4 pin connector. *8 Above the hood release in a gray 18 pin connector. On the DX & LX models, also found in a 2 pin connector behind the drivers fuse box. *9 Arms and disarms with the door locks on the EX models. The LX models arm only with the factory transmitter. *10 On the EX the wire is located at the drivers power window switch, on the LX the wire is at the keyless/security unit which is attached to the drivers underdash panel. *11 The tach test connector is located behind the battery on the 4 cylinder, and on a bracket attached to the drivers side strut tower on the 6 cylinder motor. The tach test connector is a white 2 pin connector, and may be covered by a black rubber boot. *12 Located at the first plug on the ECM, it is a 32 pin gray plug. The ECM plugs can be accessed by pulling up the carpet on the passenger side of the center console. There are 4 plugs total. *13 On the EX models it is in a green plug next to the passenger side fuse box. On the LX models it is at the keyless/security unit, if equipped, which is attached to the driver side underdash panel.

555U is simple..three wires....one of those aren't used and the other one is power..and ground. The blue wire from the module has to see a ground pulse to activate it that is why you hook it up to the status output on the alarm.

So, heres a follow up...

Since my original post, ive done 3 accords, 2001 lx, 99 ex, and 2000 lx. Like i said, i used to do car work, but was out of the game for a few years. Here's what i found:

- the PKH2 module seems to work quite well, but sells for more than the 555I. It learned the key with NO probs.

- I listened to all the other posts here, followed them to the letter, and guess what... I NEVER had a SRS or engine light problem by connecting right to the harness going to the cylinder. Thanks everyone!!! This site rocks.

- This car does need a second ingition 2 wire, so the prestige alarm is nice, since it provides that witout the use of a relay.

- The prestige alarm also allows you to by pass the EX security with a simple 2 second Unlock/Lock operation. Easy, easy, easy.

the most important thing i learned is to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT and dont tell people you know how to put these things in. Since i did my car, i've done about 10 others in a period of a month - for "free" - ugh.
